Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoilers

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

^Well, it's not like Castle hasn't gone serious before. Their 2-parters tend to be pretty intense stuff. Remember Beckett's apartment blowing up?

Well, yeah, but that wasnt a nuclear dirty bomb, and Castle and Beckett werent nearly as close as dropping all the pretext and getting it on. :p

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

A..buh...wuh....this show is my fluff. I watch it because its all smiley happy and silly.

Now its gone all "sum of all fears" on me. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

"Tonight on a very special Castle..."*

I've experienced the same disconnect in the past, but I'm getting accustomed to the occasional "serious" episode.

(Of course, every week deals with someone's death, which is, you know, kind of serious.)

*Has any show used an intro like this in the last oh, 20 years? Or am I showing my age?

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

^You mean a "Very Special Episode" intro? Or generally "Tonight, on [Show Title]" announcements before the show? No, I don't think that's really done anymore, except as voiceovers on the end credits of the immediately preceding show. Everyone wants to get into the story as soon as possible, which is why Castle always puts its main title card off until a quarter of the way into the episode.

The "very special" thing. "Tonight, on a very special Cosby Show, Dr. Huxtable gets cancer!"

To your other point, yes, the cold open is nearly ubiquitous these days. Networks now do their "tonight on..." promos over the credits of the prior ending show. Highly serialized shows still do "previously, on..." though.

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Yeah, it's so weird to watch shows from the '70s or early '80s and see them beginning with a 30- or 60-second preview of the episode that's coming up immediately. That would never fly in these spoiler-phobic times. But the principle was the same as doing a proper teaser/cold open: grab the audience's attention right off the bat so they won't change the channel.

Castle and Beckett must work together with Agent Fallon to prevent a momentous tragic event that could affect the entire city.

I did not see references to this posted in here, but my apologies if it's been noted before. Below is a link I found this past weekend, from SDCC.

Nathan reading a passage from "Naked Heat". Watch it for Stana's reactions if for nothing else. :guffaw:

Stana Katic is gorgeous! and she's into Falconry... That's right! She hunts with birds-of-prey.

*Crush*

I am seriously on tenterhooks for this ep. Cannot wait.

Hunts with? Looks to me that she IS a bird-of-prey!

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Surprising they'd do a big event episode like this, bring Castle and Beckett to the brink of confessing their feelings, and then just jam the reset button again. It feels like a copout.

I loved Castle's "take that, bomb!" pointing gesture after he disarmed it. Although I do think it's going a little overboard to have him personally be the one to save the city.

And really? It's that hard to figure out that someone hoping to wreak havoc in New York City would target Times Square? Wouldn't that be automatically protected/monitored as a likely target?

I should've known this was going to be one of those stories about "patriots" staging an enemy attack to fire up passions against the enemy or bring the country together or whatever. How many times has that been the basis for a story? There's probably a TV Tropes entry for it. (Yup, kind of -- it appears to be a subset of False Flag Operation.)

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Was not at all surprised by the true terrorists, though did appreciate the curve that McCann himself was dead and his unit buddies assumed his identity. Classic plotline, and well executed.

If I hadn't read the TV Guide article in which the creator specifically says the answer to "Will They/Won't They" is "They Will, and before the very end" I'd be frustrated by the semi-reset too. But there did seem to be a bit of movement... What's His Face is back in the picture, but Beckett seemed a bit... distracted there even when he showed up.

Liked the quiet blue title screen after Beckett and Castle pass out in the freezer; obviously they'd be rescued, but it was nice and somber nonetheless.

Wonder if we'll see Fallon again? Obviously they wouldn't want to considering the stakes, but Pasdar did a real nice job.

Thanks for the link, I didn't know they would visit ComicCon. But what "bothers" me in some inexplicable way, is that Nathan Fillion is the only one of the cast without a name card, though it might have just fallen over.

And to tonight's episode: what does it take for them to confess their feelings for each other? I know, the "will they, won't they" game is not over yet, and Moonlighting got canned after they did the deeds (after another season), but they could be and will be some clever way to "will them together" I suppose.

Oh that was a great episode.

The only thing missing from the 24 playbook would be if it turned out the domestic terrorists and Middle Eastern terrorists were in on the plot together... and Adrian Pasdar was the mastermind... and the nuke was a diversion for something bigger.

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Did you notice one of the bad guy's names was "Bauer"? ;)

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Ok, having the whole Beckett passing out/dying and then the somber Title card (WTF?!) only to have it be immediately resolved post title was a mahussive! cocktease/copout.

But, Castle's post bomb victory dance is a .gif I MUST possess. That more than made up for it.
