Casting Suggestions for New Series

Okay, I'm resurrecting this thread.

Have any of you been watching HBO's 'The Newsroom'? In it Olivia Munn plays somewhat emotionally repressed economist and journalist Sloan Sabbith. She is great in that role, and watching her in that show made me realise that she would make an absolutely amazing Vulcan.

It is not merely the look, she can really portray a cool and calm character without coming across as wooden or boring.

If they're looking to cast a captain in their late 50s/early 60s as we hear with Angela Bassett and Tony Todd, I think Mandy Patinkin would be a very strong pick. He's obviously going to be busy with Homeland for the next whatever amount of years, making this unrealistic, but if any of you have seen Bryan Fuller's Dead Like Me, you'll get why I want this guy. Definitely the best character in the show, largely thanks to Patinkin's acting. He played that experienced father figure role so well, perfect for a starship captain.

He's someone I'd really get behind.

That interview with Colbert can surely be put up against any of Captain Picard's best speeches

Captains

The Elder Statesman - Laurence Fishburne - already favoured by Mr Fuller and after The Matrix has a strong resume built on being able to spout utter shite and still sound believable ;)

The Steely Aloof One -
Claudia Black - great range, solid comic timing, can pull off aloof and distinguished in one swipe. Again, good history of spouting nonsense in a sensible manner. Plus, frankly, looks good on my TV :adore:

The Kickass Negotiator
- Regina King - Like Angela Bassett, likely out of the loop due to current commitments, but she is a damned fine actress and incredibly physically fit to boot (see her in Southland) and so could play both sides of the Captain coin - the adventurous diplomat :bolian:

The Pretty Boy Proving Himself - Enver Gjokaj - highly underrated actor, with lots of charm and charisma, plus an action side to him that could play to the adventurous side of the show. At 35 he could be newly promoted and striving to find the balance needed to be Captain.

Hugo - or a random unknown. In Fuller I trust

I love Claudia Black. While she could play anything I could see her as an interesting doctor.

Some personal choices

Gary Sinise
Pauley Perrette
Caity Lotz
David Tennant
Laurence Fishburne
Kelsey Grammer
Halle Berry (well it wouldn't be the first tv show she's done recently)

Well I think that's it for now. As for which one I'd like to be Captain? Either Grammer, Fishburne or Berry would be fine for me out of my picks.

That's a good pick, I loved her in ''Farscape''.

Edit: Also after looking back on this thread I'd just like to add that I think Michael Weatherly is a good pick also as is Parminder Nagra. :)
