Casting Pike's Dr. Boyce

Originally I put this in the Number One thread but decided to make my own.

Anyhoo...now that they got Number One, what about Dr. Boyce? He's good friends with Pike (like McCoy was with Kirk), so given that Pike AND Number One will turn up, and since I can only assume there will be a lot of scenes set on the Enterprise...then so should Boyce. So what are some names we can throw out there?

My pick: Scott Hylands. Not only is he a great actor (he played Det. Kevin O'Brien from the greatest cop show of all time, Night Heat), and he's got that Boyce gravitas, but also he's Canadian so that should make it easier to get him for DSC which is filming in Toronto.

And he wouldn't be the first Night Heat actor to do Trek, either. Allan Royal (who played Night Heat's journalist Tom Kirkwood) was the original Captain Braxton on VOY.

They don't need Boyce, the focus will still be on the Discovery crew so I doubt they'll cast a complete Enterprise crew especially not crewmembers who wouldn't be in the bridge regularly, I think Colt has a bigger chance to show up than Boyce.

Now that I think about it, McD would also be an excellent choice. (I guess I overestimated Boyce's age.) I'm sticking with Hylands as my first choice but if he's not available, McD would be a fine runner-up.
