CASTING COUCH!!!!

Erin Gray was up for Janeway. I don't like Mulgrew, but casting could never have saved that show's godawful writing. Though Janeway probably would've worn skirts more often. :)

I like Mulgrew, but Erin Gray would have been fraking awesome. Not to mention Hot! As a teenager, I never thought that Janeway was do-able, but Gray would have totally changed that.
I've also heard that Joanna Cassidy (T'Les - Enterprise) was considered for the role of Janeway. That would have been an equally kick-ass/sexy choice.

Famke Janssen, the original choice for Jadzia Dax, would have been infinitely better in the role.
I always thought that Terry Farrell was beautiful and her performance didn't bother me as much as it did others. Having said that, it would have been wonderful if they could have gotten Famke for the role. She's a great actress and would have been wonderful to watch for 6/7 years.

Captain Kirk
We all know WILLIAM SHATNER got the job, and really created an ICON in Kirk. But there were others they approached...including JACK LORD/PETER GRAVES and LLOYD BRIDGES, and others...Was Shatner the best? Could one of these others have done a better job?
I wonder how many of these, like much of what we hear regarding TOS, is a made up story the fans have accepted as truth - or a story that is only semi-truthful.

Trek wasn't exactly a hot property in 1966. If they could have gotten a big name actor in the role, I doubt Shatner would have stood much of a chance.

Actually, Shatner was an in-demand actor at the time he was cast. He had turned down several series lead roles, including the role of Dr. Kildare.

Captain Sisko
I have heard many different names attached to Sisko. I think Avery, to be honest, started off a bit shakey. I think they wanted a black-Picard, and he finally told them "let me be me". Thus the goatee and more of the Sisko he became. I loved Avery Brooks, so I think they got it right. But there were others...including Alexander Siddig/Richard Dean Anderson/James Earl Jones. The only person I would have gone with, perhaps, was Tony Todd. He is one of TREK's best guest stars. Kern/Hirogen/Older Jake..great actor

IIRC, James Earl Jones was also considered for the role of another space station commander-- Jeffery Sinclair of Babylon 5. Also, didn't Gary Graham (Soval of ENT) also audition for the role of Sisko. Although, I've always wondered what would DS9 been like had Siddig El Fadil got the part instead of Brooks. Would the last name be changed to reflect the actors background? (Doctor Julian Amores went to Doctor Julian Bashir once Siddig was cast.)

Okay...we all know that other's were considered for the rolls of our beloved star trek characters.
Would this be a bad time to point out that a ROLE is the part or character played by an actor and that a ROLL is what Geordi does going under the closing blast door as the warp core is threating to go "Whoopsie"?

Just asking.

Also, any qualified actress would likewise have been infinitely better in the role.
I bed to differ.

Freudian slip there?
I wouldn't be too sure, especially given the thread title.
