CAST FOR THE HOBBIT ANNOUNCED

Borgmatic - I guess you're new around here but it's a TREKBBS tradition to write "TITS!!!!!!" or make some reference to boobs as fast as you can when you know a thread is about to be closed.

And I second the other poster - read thread titles and their content before randomly posting the same thing again.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Awesome. So if Tennant gets a role too as rumored, this film could have two Doctors in it.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Excellent news! I'm getting excited again about this film (after years of delays, I've been holding back my enthusiasm).

Is it 2012 yet? :p

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

From my impression of Bilbo in the Hobbit and Bilbo in the movie LOTRs I wouldn't think the Freeman would fit the role. Not that I dislike this news and I trust Jackson 100%.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

I read that as "Marty Feldman".... which woulda been a interesting bilbo baggins...

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

ya know.... the time is right for a screwed up tale like that....

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Actually Marty Feldman would've more likely been cast as Gollum.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Interesting that McCoy got cast. It seems that the Doctors always get fantasy roles outside of Doctor Who. Troughton did a lot of fantasy stuff, Tom Baker as well and he was in Dungeons and Dragons, Eccleston in the Seeker, Tennant in Harry Potter and now McCoy in a Hobbit role.

Of course that's not true of all of them. Hartnell played a lot of army types, Pertwee mainly comedies, Davison,Colin Baker and Mcgann have had largely dramatic roles (Although Mcgann did have a memorable turn as the mad prisoner in Alien3). Smith, too soon to tell.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

rumour is Bil Nighy is the voice of Smaug.

Personally, I'd LOVE to have W. Morgan Sheppard be the voice of Smaug. (He was Gen. Trimble in Gettysburg, and the Soul Hunter in that first season ep of Babylon 5.)

yeah.. I knew that when i wrote that... but a mel brooks film would have feldman as bilbo for comedic effect...

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Oooh. Another thought.

Max von Sydow as the voice of Smaug. :)

No, Brooks films' hero parts tend to be played either by more conventionally heroic actors or by Brooks himself. People like Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Bill Pullman, or Cary Elwes. Feldman played the goofy sidekick parts.

There's also the fact that Feldman was 5'8", and during his lifetime, they wouldn't have had the technology to make an actor that size look Hobbit-sized. By necessity, Bilbo would've been played by a Little Person -- maybe Billy Barty or David Rappaport. Sure, Gollum was supposed to be a Hobbit-like creature, but that could easily be ignored for the gag.

And yes, I know I'm overanalyzing a throwaway joke, but it's quarter past midnight and I think my brain's running on autopilot now. I should really go to bed.
