CAST FOR THE HOBBIT ANNOUNCED

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Would he have to?

I would like him to, yes. Voices matter to me. If an actor with a rich, impressive voice is replaced by someone with a more ordinary voice, I find that something worthy of regret. Maybe you don't care about voices, but I do.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

Freeman does resemble a young Ian Holm, facially, at least. But can he match Holm's impressive voice?

 I can't stop thinking about Morgan Freeman. Bitch, you can't beat Morgan Freeman's voice!

Morgan Freeman (Voice Over): "When I was a boy, I never really wanted to leave Hobbiton. But, then, sometimes things just happen to you that..."

Of course, he is meant to be a younger Hobbit in this movie. It could be that Bilbo only developed a rich impressive voice in later years, commensurate as it was with his sudden high status in Hobbiton.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

I guess you've not watched "Sherlock" or "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"?

Hardly a resounding accolade. Hitchhiker's was woeful.

Not because of Freeman though. The movie was "meh" but I thought some of the performances were pretty good, including Rockwell's and Freeman's.

Count me as another in the "Morgan Freeman" camp.

Re: Martin Freeman to play Bilbo and other casting news

If Morgan was the Young Bilbo, who could play Old Bilbo? James Earl Jones?!

Really don't want to derail the thread, but do you think the same about the new Spock's voice?

I love it.

I have heard Morgan Freeman's voice in my head while reading every post in this thread.

Well some official casting for the Hobbit has finally been released- here is an list of cast picked so far.

AIDAN TURNER – KILI

ROB KAZINSKY – FILI

SPECULATED ROLES-BILL NIGHY AS THE VOICE OF SMAUG

I have to admit that I love the choice for Bilbo. I dont know much about the other actors though. Not that thats a problem.. Itll be nice to see some fresh faces and some of the cast from LOTR as well.. Cant wait . Whats your thoughts on all of this folks?:alienblush:

A lot more Dwarves having regular screen time in this one.

That's a lot of CGI work.

As far as the voice of Smaug, I would imagine there's going to be some fair amount of vocal filtering anyway, but should be interesting.

Hopefully the Dwarves get treated a little more seriously this time around. Fewer short jokes or dwarf-tossing jokes. Although I still predict it happening when they come to Beorn, the elves, or Lake-town.

This isn't the full cast, obviously. There are still five members of Thorin and Company yet to be cast. Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Hugo Weaving (Elrond), and Andy Serkis (Gollum) were all locked up a long time ago.

That's God talking; show some respect. :p

(add me to the list thinking "Morgan Freeman" at first. And kind of thinking: "yeah, that would work"...)
