Cardassians or Klingons?

On another forum this has become an argument between witch is better. I will admit that I am still kinda new to Star Trek only watching all the Voyager episodes and a few seasons of TNG. My preference is Cardassians, personally I don't care for the Klingons that much; I think they are nothing but uncivilized and dirty although they pride themselves on honor.

I am curious what others think and in your opinion which of the two are better?

This pretty much sums up what I think about Klingons and their stupid honor schtick.

I'm confused by the wording of this question. Which species is better? Do you mean which I like more? Then the answer would be Cardassians.

Cardassians, one of the best thought out and acted Alien species in Televised Sci-Fi.

Yes, even beyond some B5 races.

I always preferred the Klingons, as they were the original bad guys from TOS, then were somewhat "reformed," albeit not completely, as they became allies with the Federation. In their more modern guise, they've taken on the qualities of both Vikings and Japanese samurai. I kind of like that.

Also, I'm a big fan of Worf, who is arguably the most complicated Klingon owing to his upbringing. And the original Klingon trio are fun -- Kor, Kang, and even Koloth.

The Cardassians have been a bit more complex, as their society, a military dictatorship/police state, has a few more more nuances. And some of the most compelling characters have come from the Cardassian Union -- most notably Dukat and Madred, the interrogator from the TNG two-parter Chain of Command.

That's a tough one. I like the Klingons a lot because of the way they were portrayed in TOS and TNG and now through KRAD's books we can get a better glimpse into their everyday life.

The Cardassians have always been an interesting race. I agree with Red Ranger that they have produced notable compelling characters. Although I would have to throw Garak into that bunch as well.

In the end I'm going with Klingons.

You're right NCC-1701, the wording is off, to reiterate the question...

Which do you like more and why?

Cardies. Best Trek alien race ever. :techman:

But I don't bash Klingons the way some do...hey, Martok was always a ton 'o fun whenever he showed up. I liked the way Klingons showed some variability in personality type. Down-to-earth, likeable Martok; devious, nutty Gowron; and stick-up-the-posterior Worf (who, despite having no sense of humor, always seemed to have something witty to say ).

I prefer the Klingons from the TOS era (including the movies). I like a lot of what was elaborated upon in the TNG era, but the whole "honor" thing was taken way too far, imo. Between the Klingons series wide and the Cardassians, I think the Cardassians are a better realized species/culture.

I am not a warrior by nature. I would probably make a better Cardassian than a Klingon. I think I'd rather be a Cardassian; I can relate to them better. Klingons always seem to be fighting. I don't think I could live like that.

Wow, how could I forget Garak? Another fun Cardassian was his scheming father, Enabrin Tain. I got a kick out of Gilora Rejal, the Cardassian scientist who mistakenly believes O'Brien is coming onto her. I always wanted to see more Cardassian women, as they showed many male Cardassians.

And on the Klingon side, Martok and Gowron were among the best modern-era Klingons, not to mention the evil but seductive Lursa and B'Etor, the infamous Duras sisters! Two words: Klingon Kleavage! And I also love B'Elanna Torres and K'Ehyler, the hottest hybrids!

I like the Cardassians best, for all of the reasons described by other posters... I like the depth of their culture, their "desire" to embrace their dictatorship government, and be loyal to the state, I like the looks and color of their ships, the look of the Cardassians themselves, and their architecture.

Gul Dukat was the best Cardassian ever... the way Marc played that role was simply perfect. I loved the way Dukat spoke.

The same goes for Damar... that character REALLY blossomed as the Dominion War arc came to a close. I don't think there was ever a Cardassian I disliked.

And Cardassian women are hot! :D

I will also go with the Cardies. Best characters (Dukat, Garak, don't remember Madred much but I'll watch again), a more complex civilization... The one thing I really hate with Cardassians are their ships, forgettable at best.

I like the Klingons a lot but to be fair, Cardassians are better on the whole.

Brings a new meaning to "spooning".

D'oh! Yeah, Cardassian women are kind of hot! Hell, I like Klingon women, so the spoons and neck ridges aren't too much of a turn-off! -- RR

The thing I don't like about Klingons is that they don't seem to have any compassion. They're all about "the weak shall perish, only the strong survive", blah blah blah. I couldn't live like that. I don't think Cardassians are like that - I never got that impression, anyway. Cardassians, for all their devotion to the state and military, seem to be a lot more caring than Klingons.

And Cardassians don't eat food that moves, either! Bleah, I hate the thought of Klingon food. I'd die of starvation if I ever found myself on Qo'noS.

I agree, though, Cardassian *ships* are lame. That's one thing I gotta give the Klingons props on - they make cool ships!
