Cardassia as an Alpha Quadrant Power

^ Nope, if we're compering a spacefaring alien civilization to any of the nations on earth for no real reason, then the Cardassian Empire is the United Kingdom!
Why? Well Cardassia is a power in decline that once had a great empire, they are resource poor (just like the UK is, due to being a island) have a proud xenophobic streak and have made some very bad choices in allies.
The British system of reserve and understatement suits the Cardassian character (especially Garak). And both the British and the Cardassian's make great hollywood style villians! (for which we thank you America)

No, the Cardies are mostly Belgium/Dutch (with a hint of Hungarian/Romanian), in that they're arrogant and cruel colonists turning the planet Bajor into a heart of darkness, see might as right and themselves as the Master Race over all foreigners, but they go against top line military powers and they fare strategically poorly but that does not make them bad soldiers per se, they fight well when allied to or occupied by a top line superpower like the Dominion.

I can see pre-Federation Andorians as British people (perhaps Scotsmen in particular).

The Bajorians, therefore are the Irish

They could also be seen as a hybrid of Jews, Catholic Poles, and Indians.

At any given time in human history, any nation you care to name has carried out acts of extreme aggression against another, and has been the victim of the same.

Really, all you can say is whether or not a particular nation has done it recently.

^ No country would because the Ferengi are caricatures of Capitalism and therefore do not represent any specific nation, creed or ethic grouping on earth. Just as the Cardassians are archetypes of Humanities aggression and one particular vision of our future if we use up all of Earth's resources. They are not the Italian's, the British and certainly not the Belgiums.
