Captain's Table 4 - Fire Ship - Alternate Cover?

Have any of you ever noticed an alternate cover for the fourth Captain's Table book, Fire Ship, the Janeway book?

I've been looking for a decent resolution image of either or both copies but can't seem to find one that was a good scan. Anyway, I never noticed before that there were two different covers. Has anyone else ever noticed this? Does anyone know the story behind the different look Janeway has in each of these covers? I'll attach the ISBN's below in case anyone wants to look them up on Amazon or something to see what I'm referring to.

Short of a re-release with a totally different cover, I'd never noticed this on another book before. I'm not sure which is the more common. For that matter, I'll have to check my storage to see which version I have. I can't remember for certain but I think it's the one with the smiling, happy looking Janeway.

0671014676 - Kind of scowling, school-marm looking Janeway

Amazon, especially, has been known to use prerelease rough-draft versions of cover art for books. The two different ISBNs is peculiar, though. It appears friendly Janeway was the final, published version, and angry Janeway was the draft (check out that neck!), if only because I don't remember seeing angry Janeway version in person before.

^Well, actually, Fire Ship is set right around the time when Janeway cut her hair (or rather, when Mulgrew stopped wearing the long-haired wig) and actually depicts her cutting her hair shorter. So really, either cover could work, as far as hairstyle goes. Although maybe not, since the image represents her visit to the Captain's Table, which would be after the events of the main story.

Wow, I've never seen that alternate cover before. Weird.

For some reason, I'm reminded of the alternate cover for Double Helix: First Virtue (both with Beverly, but Tuvok replacing Picard in the final version).

Had forgotten that she cut her hair during the story. Which does still make the short-haired version a better fit.

I can't remember when exactly, but I saw this a long time ago. I think it may even be on memory beta..

..or maybe i'm crazy..

Thank you to the person who suggested that I read "Once Burned" to learn about mental health of captains. I recently got a used edition of the Captain's Table omnibus and have read the first two novels. Otherwise, this year I have read 12 other ST novels (mostly older ones in TOS).

Of the writing of many books there is no end and much study is wearisome to the flesh. (Solomon).
