Picked this up yesterday. I really enjoyed it. I thought the artwork was good and the story was very touching.
I haven't read MWB's "Burning Dreams" so I don't know if it covers the incident that led to Pike's injuries. This comic does and I thought it did a good job with it. It had echoes from another famous captain's sacrifice.
I liked the character work with Colt and her relationship with Pike. It was done with a minimal approach but I thought it conveyed a lot of pent up, forlorn feelings between the two. I enjoyed this Pike adventure a lot more than his turn in the Alien Spotlight story. The first half of the story was just okay, but I think it hit home in the second half. I wouldn't mind seeing a return of the aliens, the Halogians, in another comic.
If you're a Pike fan I recommend it. If anyone else has read it, I would like to read your thoughts on it.
Overall, I've really enjoyed the Captain's Log series and I hate that it only has one more entry. Along with Blood Will Tell and Crew, the Log books rank right at the top of IDW's Trek tales IMO. Though I thought Fool's Gold wasn't bad and the Alien Spotlight's had some good and some not-so-good issues, though mostly good or decent.
