Captain's Log #39 cover artwork

Hey guys. Just thought I'd show off the new cover art for ADB. This was done for the main fiction story in the issue, which is about a battle between the aging Fed cruiser Arbela and the advanced and deadly Klingon X-cruiser Kagan. Taking place in the waning days of the General War, the Kagan has been conducting an extended deep raid on Federation logistics, using its superior speed and firepower to thwart all ships unlucky enough to catch it. The USS Arbela is the first heavy unit to intercept the Kagan and pin it down. Her mission is to hold the X-ship there long enough for reinforcements to arrive. But can the thirty-year-old Arbela survive long enough against the new pride of the Klingon fleet?

What do you guys think? :p

Nice..... :techman::drool:

and nope that Federation ship is toast unless its captain and crew are as good as the Enterprise.

Btw was there a Captians log or anything that delt with the Enterprise?

Enterprise herself was off limits to SFB I believe.

Great to see you back Icy! Nice work as usual! I will give this one to the Arbela IF the Kagan keeps allowing her access to the rear shields!;)

And hey, take a look about half way down this page:

Doesn't that image with the Klingon and Fed ship just scream SFB to you?

Wait ... where are the over-sized nacelles? Or the deformed secondary hull? Ahhhh ... it's an old-fashioned Connie! So much easier on the senses.

Anyway --

The Arbela looks to be firing on the Klingon DX, which I'd guess has just done a devastating fly-over, and is leaving behind a parting gift for the Starfleet vessel in the form of a tasty photon torpedo. If the Fed captain is worth his stripes, though, he's laid a surprise mine field just ahead of the DX and that cocky Klingon is about to learn Earthers can be downright nasty when they need to.

Well, despite being thoroughly outmatched, the Captain Dunn of the Arbela had a few tricks up his sleeve. After the initial oblique pass(which did not go well for the Arbela), Captain Dunn ordered a HET(high energy turn) and took a substantial shot at the Kagan's rear shield, knocking it down. (That's the moment actually being shown here.) He then followed it up by beaming many squads of marines onto the Klingon ship, who quickly sabotaged many of the weapon systems.

Anyway, thanks everyone! :) Hopefully I'll be making more stuff to post soon.

In SFB only one Klingon ship had Photon Torpedoes. The D7C "Doomslayer".:klingon: Klingons in the game used Disrupters as their heavy weapon.

Are you positive about that, Sojourner? I could have sworn the DX was another exception. EDIT: I'm talking pre-Commander's Set here.

Hmmm ... I'm not digging out that box of stuff.

um, back in the day it was. Being the mid 80's. I never used X-ships much, you could be right. And I agree, if I open that box I might not escape it for another 10 years, same with my battletech collection, lol:lol:

Great artwork!!!

But why did the Klingons name a ship after me?
Maybe they're sending a message that they're hunting me down for that maneuver I pulled on them during our last battle that cost them a handful of D7A cruisers.

Ah, it's wonderful to honored by one's enemies....:guffaw:

It's a good thing the Fed ship is sending commandoes... in SFB almost all the phasers on a Klingon ship can fire to the rear so Arbela is potentially in a lot of trouble.

I, too went 'huh?' and wondered which ship was firing... maybe if there was a small cloud of debris coming off the D 7X's aft hull it would be clearer. Doesn't need to be anything fancy.

Good work, as always.

Looks great!

I'd agree with the part about having the point of impact look somewhat different - either by hitting a shield (if the number 4 is supposed to be up at this point) or leaving some kind of mark/debris/etc on the hull (if the shield is down).

And to clarify, no currently-published Klingon X-ship (in either Module X1 or the new Module X1R) has photons - though you will see drones, disruptors and the odd SFG.

I knew one of you would make me dig through that damned box ...

Nerroth gets off the hook for his careful use of the qualifier "currently-published" but now gaze back through many sunsets past and look upon the world as it was twenty-five years ago.

(mind you, this is even cooler if you're sipping Kool-Aid and have Goldsmith's TMP Klingons theme blasting in the background)

Nice work! This has a more classic SFB look to me than a lot of your covers. With way better models than the "pre Penguino" covers, of course.

No doubt about it, unless the Klingon unloaded his phasers on the oblique pass, which he most likely did, the Fed's about to get hosed big time.
