Captain's Chair Article in the NYTimes

NY Times HOME section features big Trek article

There is a very interesting article in today's Times about great fans adorning their living rooms, home offices and homes in general with TOS Kirk's Chair!

I mocked up a chair back in high school, but this article delves really well into the modern phenomenon and the emotional resonance the chair holds for so many of us. Worth a read!

Re: NY Times HOME section features big Trek article

The total power chair must have the high, throne-like back, generous armrests loaded with amenities and accessories, a solid pedestal (It's ok if the ensigns and whatnots get thrown about during the ion storm, but it ill becomes a captain.), and the dark, masculine naugahide or vinyl upholstery.

There's already a thread on this. I'll merge :)

I sat in the original. I go with the statement that this thing was cobble together from scratch. I was made of coarse grained plywood, that I bet would show up on an HD re-master. Also, it was not very comfortable.

Captain Robau made one when he was a kid. He assembled it out of the bones of a few Star Wars fans, after they called James T. Kirk a wussy.

You would have to be a fool to pay over $2000 for an uncomfortable piece of furniture. Sure its a great conversation piece but thats it. Im sure we will see several of these for sale on ebay once people get tired of them and realize it takes up to much space.
