Captains and responsibility?

Thank you. Any examples of this in Deep Space Nine please?

DS9 is pretty much a counter-argument in itself, given that Sisko ‘is of Bajor’ - he sticks by the planet even to the extent of tanking its entry into the Federation to keep Bajor safe. Though as your friend pointed the finger at TOS/TNG I suspect he doesn’t view DS9 in the same light.

I’m saying that pretty much the whole of DS9 is an example of a Starfleet Captain taking responsibility to assist a civilisation over the long term; the wormhole aliens/prophets repeatedly tell Sisko he is ‘of Bajor’. Sisko even goes so far to put the needs of Bajor before the best interests of the Federation, telling them to hold off their application to join the Federation because of a vision of doom he recieves fortelling catastrophe for Bajor if the go ahead.

Sisko wasn't always on the station. He got to stretch his legs every once in a while, hop in the runabout

and head on into the wormhole.

Yeah, but he only did that on Mother's Day or the holidays. The rest of the time, he was too busy with his war games to visit. Typical.
