According to DS9, there were many many many planets that flew the Maquis flag.... That means millions of "citizensoldiers" and hundreds of ships if not thousands of ships (obviously not all warp capable)...

The Val Jean was maybe a third the size of voyager with about 20 somthin crew, two of which were spies and one was in for the killing so hardly following anyone...

Why was there such an interest in Chakotay if he was such smallfish?

Chakotay for me. He does have a bit of Janways leading skill. Tuvok would be too logik, I think the humans would have some problems with him.

As first officer it would have to be Chakotay, with Tuvok moving up to replace him as FO, otherwise I forsee a mutiny by the Marquis members.

Tuvok for sure. I never thought Chakotay was a great leader in any way. I think Chakotay would've been a terrrrrible captain.

Depending on When Chakotay or Tuvok took over... Do you think that either of them would have seduced or made out with Cashak? Although, Tuvok had to hide in transporter suspension so that would have been a month or so running through devore space where Tuvok's captaincy would have been unworkable.
