So, does this mean Captain Marvel will never meet the Avengers? Or will they cast an older actress for that (because even if 90s means 1999 that will be almost 20 years before Captain Marvel airs)? I mean, honestly, I'm sure they'll pull some "her powers stop her from aging" thing, but its so unnecessary. Also, more superheros before Iron Man but after Captain America is stupid, but whatever.

Also, not to be insensitive, but Samuel L. Jackson is 68 years old, so unless they CG the hell out of him just taking off the eye patch isn't going to drop 20+ years off his appearance. Its going to be noticeable. Unless he's also ageless but got his age "frozen" later in life, its not going to work.

Is Marvel just making CM a period piece because DC did it with their first female hero movie? I can't think of any other reason for this. Well, this certainly makes the movie less appealing, but I'll still see it of course. I mean, at the very least the Skrulls being introduced might be cool enough to kind of make up for Marvel shoehorning a hero in where none were active for absolutely no reason.

I like the idea of exploring other time periods in the MCU. My fantasy MCU Fantastic Four movie would be a 60's period piece. Setting it in the 90s means that it is beyond the SHIELD careers of Peggy Carter, Howard Stark and Hank Pym, who all either left SHIELD or were assassinated in 1989. However, Peggy is still a possibility, and I would love to know what, if any, relationship Fury had with her. A young Alexander Pierce or an older Dum-Dum Dugan are also possibilities.

Also, perhaps setting it in the 90s is a way to introduce the Skrulls so that they can do "Secret Invasion" as Avengers 4?

Setting it in the '90s does seem weird, unless it's a miscommunication or the bulk of the movie takes place in space.

Interesting the Skrulls are going to be in it. I thought Fox would have the rights to them.

I like the idea of the film being a period piece.

Marvel's taking the FF back piece by piece.
Can't happen fast enough.

Maybe some day they'll have Fantastic Four back entirely and finally integrate them into the MCU. Perhaps also as a period piece as someone suggested in another thread and then travel forward in time.

Huh, how did that work out?

Well, somehow both FOX and Marvel had the rights to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, so obviously weird clashes happen with Marvel superhero rights. At this point I've just about given up trying to figure out all the bizarre conditions of Marvel superhero rights

Given that we're not certain to get Captain America 4 and I'd guess that they're setting Carol up to be the Captain America of Phase 4 onwards, then the comparison to the time-jump for both characters wouldn't be impossible to believe. Perhaps she gets her powers in the nineties, has a few adventures, but then retires from active duty (as we were led to believe WW did in her movie following WW1) and goes off the grid, only to return during the events of Avengers 4 when Fury has to pull out all the stops including some of his secrets to help combat the villains.

I honestly didn't expect them to go this way, but thinking about it, I really like that this avoids Carol seeming like a latecomer to the party in Infinity War 2.
It would certainly make sense to have a retired Peggy Carter show up. Both because this is a female lead movie and because to date, we've never seen Fury & Carter in the same room and that would just be all kinds of awesome.

Interestingly, going by the design of her uniform this seems to retroactively mean that the uniform they gave Cap in tWS was based on Carol's, not the other way around. A nice, if subtle twist. Indeed, between this, the apparently inevitable "frozen in time" ending and of course the rank/title of Captain it seems as though they're making sure the two Caps are firmly entwined (figuratively speaking.) Presumably so Larson can basically taken over from Evans if he doesn't renew his contract.
