^ That's the story I heard as well, right down to Lee calling up Byrne.:guffaw:

IMHO, the John Byrne created brown and tan look was Wolverine's best look.

It's why I loved his X-Men Evo look so much.

Yeah, and most people wouldn't care if they introduced She-Hulk in the MCU as a serial killer ex-girlfriend of Bruce Banner. That doesn't make it right. There is NO reason to put carol danvers in a Kree uniform. Outside of a twoish issue Avengers story arc where she was brainwashed, she has never been part of the Kree military, and even then she wore her (at the time Ms. Marvel) costume. Its all pointless changes, its basically just Inhumans at this point. I wouldn't be shocked if Scott Buck had a big role in the movie, since it gives about as much of a shit about the character as his shows did.

I guess this level of shit makes sense. You have a crappy indie film directing team combined with a script co-written by people who wrote things like The Good Dinosaur and the Tomb Raider reboot and of course the movie is going to be shit and hate the source material. Well, I guess Disney is saving the actually talented people for the better known characters. You'd think that the first solo female hero movie would justify spending money on good people for the creative decisions, but instead its looking like Spider-Man: Homecoming will have competition for the worst movie put out by the MCU.

Still, only two piles of shit is pretty good when you've made as many movies as the MCU has.

Are you seriously suggesting some equivalence between the following two things?

    • Changing a character from a legal professional into a serial killer, hyperbole you've pulled out of thin air
    • A different costume
I haven't seen anywhere, in any news reported about the production, a suggestion that Carol is part of the Kree military. The way you turn speculation into fact (in your own head, mind you) is exhausting. Why Scott Buck should come up in this thread, other than to beat the dead horse of your profound dislike for him, is a mystery. If there is a saving grace in the post I've quoted, it's that you didn't really resort to the uncouth name calling and personal attacks at the creative staff of the film like you have a habit of doing.

Ugh, I can't believe I popped out of lurking for this. I've been on this board since 2001 and successfully been non-argumentative with other posters over all that time, despite some truly objectionable opinions being posted. You are absolutely entitled to your opinions, and speculation about upcoming media is like 75% of what this board represents. But honestly, can you not do a little introspection and recognize how over the top your post history is? Please, do us all a favor and do some meditation or something, because you really need to chill out. You've got great knowledge of comic history and plotlines but it gets lost in the swamp you choose to wallow in, and the mud you choose to fling.

    ...

Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to this movie and think everything looks pretty cool so far. I dig the look of the suit, and can't wait to see what she eventually ends up wearing. Was never really a fan of the character, and she really rose to prominence after I stopped collecting in the late 90's, but as Marvel has shown a knack for adapting their properties to the screen I can't help but feel some excitement.

Comics have been more fluid than what most people urinate when it comes to backstories and outfits. I couldn't care less if the one from the movie is different than the version you most hold to from the comics. It's just rambling from comicbookfans who are to uptight about source material. Wether it's a novel or a comic, it's impossible to make a true 1on1 adaption of anything.

I'M not really all that familiar with this character. I'm not a comic reader and I only vaguely remember hearing the name Captain Marvel growing up so any changes aren't going to bother me. And a quick search shows that there have been MANY versions of this character..

I wonder if the red, blue, and gold suit will be the same suit just with new colors, or a whole new suit she makes or gets made? The overall design aside from colors is pretty close what I would expect from her regular suit.

That's not going to stop a lot of the comic fans though, because a lot of them grew up with a specific version that fan deems to be THE version of a specific character. So, when that character looks or acts even slightly different than their 'established best version', the whole planet might aswell go nuclear, because you as a devoted fan have been betrayed now.

And that's not even counting the original Golden Age version, who is now owned by DC Comics, and who has his own movie coming out under the title SHAZAM. (Since Marvel owns the trademark to the name these days.)

Maybe she just stole the uniform and liked it.

KirkFives treats everything he dislikes as a personal attack against him.

I have no problem with anyone not liking any kind of media. At the end of the day, it’s all opinion. My problem is hyperbole. Comments such as “the biggest costume fuck up” falls into that category. And suggesting something as simple as a costume, which may or may not, be in any kind of context, does not come off to me as a “legitimate grievance.”

But with all of this, to each his own, I suppose. That’s just my opinion.

It would make a great story how one of comics greatest superheroes and pop culture icons vanished into virtual insignificance thanks to industry preference. Captain Marvel was bigger than Superman in his day until DC decided their character should have no competition.

Like you, I never read much involving this Captain Marvel. As a Rogue fan, I did pick up (several years later) the Avengers Annual where she stole Carol Danvers' powers. (Was she Binary then?)

Regardless, I've been enjoying the adaptations to characters and storylines Marvel has brought to the screen for their Cinematic Universe. They haven't necessarily been my favorite versions from the books I've read, but still quite enjoyable, nonetheless. With Captain Marvel, it looks like she's going to be one of their new heavy hitters, as the original roster is shuffled off the screen for various reasons. I trust it will all be very exciting and fun to watch, so I can't wait!

Nope. Avengers Annual 10 takes place in between Uncanny X-Men 149 and 150, and Carol became Binary in Uncanny X-Men 164.

Do the comics even recall that Rogue only became good because of the aspects of Carols' personality she absorbed, or did they whitewash her to the point that all she got from Carol was the power?

All traces of Carol and every other personality that she ever absorbed were purged from Rogue's mind when she first came into physical contact with the infant Hope Summers. Since then, she's had full control over her powers. At least she did the last time I read X-Men comics.

I thought she lost the Carol personality when she entered the Siege Perilous.

And yet she retained a heroic persona? Either they forgot she wasn't heroic to start with and only changed due to Carol, or she was so permanently changed even being "cleansed" wouldn't revert her mind.

Yup, confirmed. The Hope Summers thing must have been yet another reset.
