Captain Marvel (2019)

6 out of 10 for Captain Marvel. Decent origin story, but pretty bland, by the book action and pretty underwhelming acting given the star power (aka, script could have used some more work)
Sorry, is this a grading thread or feminism vs anti-feminism thread (like every other discussion about Captain Marvel movie I have seen). Don't feel like reading 100 pages to find out.

The Grading and discussion thread is just a bit lower down the thread list at the moment.

As a Trump supporter I have no interest in seeing this movie because I'm not interested in comic books, or movies based off of them, but I did know this movie was going to do well because a majority of people aren't bothered by the social message. Now, when I was a kid, I watched Ripley defeat the alien and thought nothing of the fact that she wasn't a man. Her gender didn't matter. She was equal because she wasn't special.

It's ironic..? Without the smiley I'm confused..

Alien is also always used as an „argument „ against other female lead movies.
„Why do we need more female heroes? You have Ripley. It‘s not like there are NO movies with female heroes.“

Ripley was utterly terrified, scared spitless, but she navigated through that to save herself and expunge the creature from the ship. The Hero's Journey masterfully portrayed.

I mean, they have already a lot of perfectly fine movies!

What does Trump or Alien have to do with this?

I’ll be so happy when Trump is out of office so this whole cult shit goes away. Not every single thing needs to be a political controversy. We should have been excited for Captain Marvel because she’s badass and she’s going to kick Thanos’ ass. Instead a bunch of butthurt losers tried to make it into a thing because they don’t really have anything real to worry about. Nothing bothers them so they purposely get upset over nothing.

More diversity in comic book movies can benefit all. It just means more movies. Remember when we were happy that X-Men wasn’t garbage, now the movies are good. Black Panther was up for Best Picture. An animated Spider-Man movie won an Oscar. Not only did it tell an amazing story about Peter, but it told a beautiful one about Miles Morales learning to be a hero and Nic Cage was Spider-Man Noir. More diversity is a path to more Nic Cage in wonderfully weird roles. We don’t have to fight over this.
