CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I thought it was really cool. Like Captain Craig indicated a set up and look at the origin, I suspect that the first full trailer will have more action in it.

We already have a Fury and he's black - unless they go with some weird convoluted backstory that links the two.

My comments were, in part, addressed to speculation in prior months about whether Fury would appear and how. The comics character has his origin in WWII-themed books, leading the Howling Commandoes. But a black man would be unlikely to be in a position of leadership in the segregated '40s, and the time gap between WWII and the present is too great for both characters to be the same person (without 'weird convoluted backstory' involving serums and such), so it can't be Samuel L. Jackson's Fury (if a Fury appears at all, that is, which still isn't established).

But you wouldn't need a weird, convoluted backstory to link present Fury with a potential WWII Fury--just say the former is the latter's grandson.

You just have Jackson's fury get zapped by the Cosmic cube and thus you don't need the infinite formula. Also while I take your point that the 1940s were segregated, it's not even clear that any Nazis appear in this film, so against a general backdrop of strangeness I'm not sure the audience would notice or care.

I thought the Superbowl spot looked great. I'm surprised there haven't been more comments about it already.

Here is the Super Bowl spot that aired last night.

Maybe this screen grab will help get some peoples attention!

@Captain Craig...that flash had me as soon as I saw it. I was surprised they would show that right off the bat but kind of makes sense. I really like how Skull looks.

I was mistaken. They CGI'd Evans face on to someone else's body

I had thought they might save Skull for a full trailer but then realized, maybe like them, that this is biggest single audience you could get. May as well toss out a glimmer of the bad guy(even if Joe Public doesn't yet know he's the bad guy).

That probably made more sense. Just swap faces(like Terminator Salvataion did for the Arnold cameo) instead of doing his whole body every time till the transformation.

Even his face looked different though. Gaunt and skinny. He looked more like Ryan Gosling than himself.

Awesome trailer... although I hope he won't be wearing that helmet through TOO much of the movie. It may be the best possible design they could come up with, but it still looks pretty damn dorky on Evans.

in Ultimate Origins, it's revealed that Fury was alive in WW2 and was one of the black 'volunteers' (ha!) for the super-soldier serum, before they used it on Rogers and the one that actually worked. he escaped and basically wound up joining up and serving and faking his death over the next 50 or so years under fake names before enlisting again as 'Nicholas Fury' which was when General Ross found him and recruited him into SHIELD and put him in charge of the attempts to recreate the super-soldier serum, which involved a certain B. Banner, H. Pym and R. Parker...

Yeah Ultimate Origins retconned Fury's origin. It's funny how the Ultimate universe has evolved and developed since it's inception. It was meant to be a counter for fans who were disgruntled with the bogged down and cluttered continuity of the regular MU and now after just ten years it went through it's first big (and sucky) event to retcon things (Ultimatum).

That would indeed be the simplest explanation though not accounting for the "realism" segregation issue but Special Forces units were always a bit more hands on, i.e. if they get results they will do it and if a black man is this good then let him lead.

Another one would be my Bond theory and how to incorporate all actors.. just have the name Nicholas Fury be a brand. It doesn't matter who's working under the name.. as soon as a man takes the position his name gets changed to Nick Fury so a 40s Nick Fury could be a white man, the one in the 21st century a black man.

However studios think that the general viewer would be bored by this kind of detail (and face it.. unless the story centers on racism and social issues it is unimportant to the story itself) they will leave it out.. heck, don't even mention it that a black man is leading a top unit in a time where segregation is heavily practiced and on with the movie.

In the U.S. Army, there weren't any "Special Forces" units at the time. The closest thing they had during World War II were the Ranger battalions, and those were all-white.

It was only a matter of time:

I think this improves it considerably.

Looks like a troll. Have no idea what that post has to do with our discussion.
