Of that group, I favor Chris Evans. Mike Vogel comes closest to looking like my idea of Cap. That new guy, Wilson Bethel, looks too weatherbeaten for the role. He's more your Tragic Emo Vampire type.

Hugo Weaving ("The Lord of the Rings" and "The Matrix" trilogies) is reportedly in talks to play the villain Red Skull in Marvel Studios' The First Avenger: Captain America.

If he takes on the role, Weaving would be reuniting with The Wolfman director Joe Johnston.

Johnston and the studio are currently casting Steve Rogers/Captain America.

The film is expected to hit theaters on July 22, 2011.

Great! Hugo Weaving is such a fresh choice to play a villain. It's not like he hasn't played a villain before time and time again!

Though if he can pull of a good German accent, I think his cadence would be great for the Red Skull. I've always pictured him talked a bit like Weaving... very deliberate.

Though I wish they got the guy from Inglorious Basterds.

haha yeah Christoph Waltz would be my first choice too. But I'm sure he doesn't wanna get typecast as a Nazi.

Waltz isn't remotely suited to the role, at least based on his brilliant work in Basterds. Col. Landa was a great villain because of all the charm, sophistication, and humour that Waltz brought to him, and the Red Skull has none of those qualities; he's a one-dimensional raving madman with no redeeming or sympathetic qualities. Calls for a very different sort of actor.
