Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I saw the trailer before The Force Awakens and it lokks pretty good, it all seems to center around Bucky. And I really feeling sorry for Tony there at the end with Cap and Bucky teaming up to fight Iron Man.
You mean the two old men beating up the sad roomba?

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Mark my words when I write this:

When we actually see the movie Tony's line of "So was I." will have NOTHING to do with being Steve's friend. If it even makes it into the movie at all.

We've seen this sort of mis-direction from the Russo Brothers before, in the CA:TWS trailer. I'm not fooled this time.

You shouldn't be either.

How about this scene that's muted in the trailer?

*Mouthing* "Steve's dead"

I think you're reading something that's not there. But we'll see in a few months.

I'm merely posing the question. The "so was I" thing could be trailer misdirection. However, Bucky saying Steve's dead while in a fight with Iron Man, isn't out of character and has happened in canon.

After this happened.

Bucky, of course, blamed Stark for his pro-registration fervor and Steve's death. Bucky and Tony have come to blows several times over Steve and his ideals.

Now, we know Chris Evans and RDJ are both signed through Infinity War Part 2. And we also know that Feige said the MCU will not being doing a streight adaptation of Civil War. So we know Steve will live.

HOWEVER, it's totally in character for Marvel Studios to "kill off" a character and bring them back later.

Stark (twice), Loki (twice), Coulson, Fury, Bucky, Pepper, have all had fake out deaths. Hell people are still in denial about Quicksilver being dead, because Marvel hasn't committed to keeping character's dead.

So, I could totally see Steve "dying" in Civil War, only to be brought back later before the finale.

And if you play it backwards, you'll hear a recipe for a really ripping lentil soup.

Well, considering there's a chance Thanos could pop up and promise to bring back her brother if Wanda helps him get the Infinity Gem from Vision, well, why not?

(Not that I think it's likely to happen, but there's a small chance.)

Not to mention they could use the regenerator that was used to restore Coulson.

Or if they have SW the kinds of reality altering powers she has in the comics. Wanda was able to bring her kids back to life, I recall. However MCU Wanda isn't that strong. So far, she's more of a Jean Grey with red energy,

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

TAHITI went boom a good long while before Quicksilver got swisscheesed.

Unless somebody else has a Kree body and a lot of time and resources to start making the G325 (?) serum again...well no he'd be pretty rotten by that point.

This one's staying dead without the aid of time travel, which Thanos could promise. But he wouldn't honour that so yeah.

This made me so angry! Why would you take a character whose powers are different and interesting and boil them down to 'Jean Grey with red energy,' especially when the powers of the other characters are generally so samey (strength, flight, with the odd energy blast). Obviously, they needed her hallucination ability for plot purposes but I think establishing her probability hexes as opposed to bargain basement telekinesis would not really have affected the plot but just made her more interesting.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Her powers could always grow as she uses them more and learns how to use them properly.

Assuming they don't get access to a live and hopefully informed and consenting donor Kree in the interim, of course.

Meanwhile...

Remembering something from Age of Ultron: they brought Pietro's remains back. Remembering something else from the Dawn of Justice trailers: Zod's remains were taken by LexCorp from USAMRIID and stored in one of that US Army's branch's containers.

Resulting question: would the Avengers have had to turn Pietro's remains over to their universe's version of USAMRIID, however temporarily?

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I doubt it. They probably just turned over his body to his sister so she could bury him.

I don't see how that would be on the table. Pietro was a Sokovian citizen, and his death occurred on Sokovian soil/in Sokovian airspace (however you want to define the situation with Novi Grad being lifted into the air). SHIELD was apparently evacuating the citizenry, but SHIELD is no longer an officially-sanctioned organization and therefore has no legal obligations to the U.S. Most probable scenario is that Pietro's body was returned to Wanda for burial; I suppose it's possible that the Sokovian government could have tried to acquire the body, but that's the only thing I can think.

(Side-note: Was the Sokovian government just under Hydra's control before the movie started? That Hydra base was awful visible, what with it being on a castle on top of a mountain right next to their capital city...)

The castle was probably some normal old building that HYDRA acquired and renovated for their own purposes, with the the public none the wiser.

Also, it was established in dialogue in Age of Ultron and expanded in some supporting materials that Sokovia was frequently wracked with war, including foreign military presence. I don't recall exactly if this part is true, but I think HYDRA fomented the conflicts to keep attention off of their presence.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Based on the trailer this looks better than Winter Soldier did. CW:TWS was the best of the two Captain America movies so that's all good.
