Capaldi's costume partially revealed? (and a possible S8 spoiler)

An image of Capaldi in a grey suit standing near an open Tardis door overlooking what is assumed to be Gallifrey with the words above saying 'The Hunt Begins'.

Think we know what season 8 is gonna all be about.

Note he's also holding a sonic screwdriver of new design; looks slimmer than Tennant's.

Either that or it's entirely fan made. :)

I really don't think Capaldi's costume will be quietly revealed without any fanfare on Facebook first.

The first picture of Smith after he was revealed to be the Doctor was him dressed mostly in black, IIRC. Definitely wasn't his costume. I wouldn't be surprised if Capaldi is still in the costume selection process as yet. And no one would reveal something like this on Facebook without any fanfare. We're more likely to get a glimpse of his costume when filming starts in a couple of months.

Yeah, this is fan made. And I don't think the BBC would go into his costume yet. Why do it now? You just did the anniversary and you have a finale of Smith coming up... this would be a distraction.

Unless the regeneration is radically different, we will only see him in Smith's clothes in the Christmas special.

looks fan made... and i'd be bitterly disappointed if we got a third Doctor in a row wearing a suit of some description :(

Isn't that just lifted from the special where he was introduced? Looks like the suit he was wearing then. They just made it brighter.

As long as Capaldi's wanted to play the Doctor, somehow I have a hard time believing he'd want the costume to just be a suit.

According to Moffat at the official celebration, they still haven't settled on Capaldi's look yet. He was hoping to avoid the last minute rush/crisis they had with Smith's look but figured they'd probably end with the last minute rush/crisis just like with Smith!

So, right now, no one involved even knows what the look will be like!

I do wonder about the costuming process. Tennant had a very specific idea of at least one part of his outfit - the long coat. Smith's outfit was infamously rejected at the late hour, and that's something they wanted to avoid. I suspect that if Capaldi had any ideas he'd have as much influence as his predecessors. Him being a lifelong fan, I'm sure he'll have some.

Personally, I'm hoping for a continuation of the waistcoat. Looks awesome on every Doctor. Then, variations on that look instead of the wholesale changes we had in the Eleventh Doctor.

That, or jeans. I think he misses a great pair of jeans.

Because he's another very thin Doctor, I'd like to see him in a big heavy loose fitting coat, with layers to fill him out a bit more, like the Baker Doctors (Colin's solid blue one, not the Technicolor Nightmare, and any of Tom's).

I'm kind of liking the long coat - waist coat seems a bit too old fashioned really even on Smith sure it looks neat but I dunno... but I'd almost like to see something a bit more casual. Jeans, an oxford and tie and maybe a casual blazer with a long overcoat over it. Still smart looking, still has that professorial look, but more relaxed. I have a feeling Capaldi's Doctor is going to be more chill compared to Tennant and Smith still intense of course, but maybe a bit less physical. Or at least the full body contortions and such would be less.

I'm almost hoping they give him more of a refined Sonic too, sort of a nice meld of the Tennant, mixed with a bit of the classic and maybe the detail of the Smith. Although I do wonder if they'll simply give him "River's" sonic so that he can give it to her at some point.

I expect that Moffat will abandon his "fairytale" approach with the new incarnation of the Doctor, and that the sonic screwdriver won't be as important as it has been for the eleventh Doctor.

One of Moffat's recent interviews featured a tidbit about getting a text from Capaldi while Capaldi was out shopping with the wardrobe designer. Moffat said something to the effect of "He has very strong opinions about clothes and what he wants to wear." So I'm sure that Capaldi had a clear idea from the get-go.

he would look like people I run into everyday, normal and mundane rather than otherworldly.

He's gonna be fabulous!
