The technical reason for Klingons looking different is because of a makeup and costume problem..

I'm aware, and I was talking more about the introduction of the ridges from the films and all the in-universe theories as to why they look different instead of just accepting the fact that through various productions the appearance evolved.

Campbell was okay as Trelane, but I thought he was much better as Koloth the Klingon.

I preferred him as the Squire with his Liberacial attire and look and childish anger!
