Not surprising at all, but still like a bullet in the chest.

I have to say that's exactly how I felt when I saw the headline when I logged on.. Like someone had shot me in the chest.. Just for a second...

What a pisser.. Well, it WAS a good day... I guess I can look forward to the axe falling down in Carnivale now...

GRRRRRRRRR

Jeers!

Well, I have absolutely no reason to watch UPN ever again.

Moonves knew they were going to do this, even last season (they just wanted enough episdoes to make a good syndication package to put out there).

UPN is now about programming for Urban and women targets, with some bad reality TV thrown in the mix. Enterprise never fit in the mold there these past few TV seasons.

Well, thanks to the cast and crew for a good run. I have enjoyed it.

I hope that they at least take the time to start working on a new movie incarnation to keep us loyal fans happy.

Same here... Enterprise was the only thing that I watched on that network.

Oh to what might have been...

I must say, I find it rather ironic that it takes the cancellation of the show to cause a new record number of users online. There may be a lesson here somewhere, but I don't know what it is.
Except it's not quite true.

Yet, anyway.

You shoulda seen this place around the end of "Zero Hour".

Dosen't sound good to me to fire off E-Mails to Paramount/UPN/Viacom saying "Fuck you."

That's probably the best way to get your message ignored and to just reafirm their opinions of the fandom in general.

The BEST thing you can do is construct a well-written, thought-out email or better yet actual letter describing how you feel about this situation, letting them know you now have no reason to watch their network, and your intentions to boycott products made from their advertisers and their sister networks (those being Spike and CBS.)

Simply sending them curses isn't about to do a damn bit of good.

Um, Htown, it is true. Look at the bottom of the main page, down where the record is listed, and you'll see that the BBS as a whole hit a new record at 5:01 EST.

Wow. Even though it was likely, I'm shocked, saddened, disappointed and disillusioned. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I think i'm in shock, no matter how much I knew it was comming.. the only thing i can think right now is that atleast its going out on a fantastic high, unlike Voyager and DS9.. that's some kind of consolation

Might as well post my thoughts.

I have never watched an episode of Ent - and I have never commented on it either - I grudgingly watched up to the end of VOY, and had by then felt that B&B were taking the piss - I imagined them in early story breaks dreaming up the next "kewl" idea to flog to the fans, no thought, no subtlety, no nuance - it was just making TV for the sake of making cash - it wasn't star trek for me any more.

But anyway - I respect that others liked what was being produced - and indeed of what I have heard it sounds like since B&B let go of the reigns the quality has improved.

My thoughts are mostly with all those who's livelihoods depends on making trek both in front and behind the camera - for nearly 20 years some of the guys have had a safe, well paying job - and now they are going to be looking for work - not such an easy task in today's TV world where dirt cheap, low quality, low overhead reality TV reigns supreme.

What worries me most as a fan of star trek is that the people in charge of the franchise who got trek into this position are the ones dreaming up the next new idea. Another big budget cinematic flop could see the end of new trek for decades. Trek needs a break - but it doesn't need to be B&B'ed into an early grave.

A shame for me, 'cause I really got into the show this season after disliking most of the early years.

I wouldn't RIP Star Trek just yet though, kids. Those of us who are old enough can tell you that the 70s were a grim time indeed, what with being fans of a long-dead, 79 episode TV show we hoped to one day see revived. People thought we were freaks. We had to put up with rumors, stalled TV revivals and then finally a film that was (for many of us) a letdown, similiar to the disappointment some felt at ENT. The odds against the franchise have constantly been long ones, but again and again it has come back from the "dead".

So don't give up hope - if enough people continue to love Star Trek (and they always have), it will be back. And whatever else happens, it will never die.

Thank God, Shiva, Baal, Budda, G'Quan, the Gu'alld, Big Brother, what ever!!!!

Warning for trolling.

Just a point of information.....Is no one allowed to express happines or positive feelings about the fact that the show was cancelled. I mean its clear that the show was not popular. Is only one perspective permitted on this issue?

I'm looking at the bright side. The loss of Season 5 might mean that we're one year closer to the next incarnation of TREK--be it on TV or film.

I won't be there. The next series will be treated even worse than Enterprise was and I refuse to put any more emotional investment in a show that gets treated like shit by its network (and I'm sorry -- UPN did NOT do everything it could to keep the show alive. Why would it allow affiliates to preempt it, for example?) and by a small but vocal group of "fans". My signature says it best. Star Trek ended today (or, to be more correct, will end when Episode 22 airs in a few months). After that I'm off to Doctor Who and BSG. Trek is done and it's the bean-counters NOT anyone involved with the creative side of the show (and that includes B&B) who are the guilty parties here.

Cheers

Alex
Alex, that's exactly how I feel. I won't support any future star trek movies/shows ever again. The so called "fans" are not worth it.

I'm not surprised. And I would be lying If I said I wasn't disappointed. This show from its inception was dommed from the start and several factors were involved in its inevitable downfall:

The Voyager factor. It came on the heels of the worst series finale of (at that point) the worst of all the Trek spinoffs. You knew some seriously bad mojo from VOY would plague ENT, whether they wanted it to or not. It didn't help that the same people involved with that show were responsible for ENT. It was like changing a coat of paint on a house that needed so much more. Which brings me to my next factor....

Berman and Braga. Let's face it. They were burnt out on Trek and saw it merely as a way to fatten their wallets. And who could blame them? There are enough "bad Trek is better than no Trek" people out there to take advantage of. They thought that the brand name alone would bring in the ratings and to hell with any effort. Why do you think it took less than a year to develop it? A good show should take much longer to write its "bible".

Identdy crisis. Say what you will about 24 and Smallville, two shows that started around the same time ENT did, they knew what they were about and sated the course. ENT? Was it primarily a 22nd century show or was it a time travel show? Was it trying to be an ensemble show or Big Three Redux? Was it about exploration or war? The founding of the Federation or the TCW?

Season Four graverobbing. What some people touted as Fanny Coto's homage to Trek's past glories was just robbing the ideas of other shows. Things like Section 31, The Mirror Universe, and the Klingons have been touched upon in a satisfactorily way to me. What would have he done any different or better that hasn't been done? It all seemed like bad fanfic to me.

Stagnation in the face of the competion. Trek's not the only game in town anymore. So why does it act like it is? Shows like Stargate, Firefly, Farscape, and now Battlestar Galactica are being written in a way that thay could challenge any non sci-fi drama with its characters, themes, and storylines. While Trek, ENT in particular, like a bloated prizefighter past his prime, continues to swing and miss and, using such antiquated devices such as the Big Three formula in the face of the ensemble formula of other shows, coasting on an ufocused arc that eventually went nowhere (did they not learn from The X-Files?), and relying on blatant titilation and needless violence (remember Airlock Archer?) to attract a demographic that really didn't care about Star Trek to begin with, continues to be a laughingstock even withing the sci-fi community.

There are so many other factors big and small, but I haven't enought time to post them. I hope that this serves as a wakeup call to TPTB and the fans that the way things have been done doesn't work anymore and nothing is guaranteed in today's climate. Trek is just another fish in a huge ocean. I don't feel sorry for the fans because I have a feeling, they knew the end was near. There just wasn't enough of them.

this is merely anger so i dont want to draw a warning

les mooneves died feb 3 2005

That is completely uncalled for! At the end of the day it is just a TV show!

No, it's no longer a TV show

There are 10 new episodes left - plenty of life left in this show.

Have you seen the number of warnings she's issued in the last hour or so? They are getting *very* petty, and it seems to me that anything she disagrees with (read: "anti-Enterprise") gets slapped with a warning. The only thread I saw on the first page that was positive about the cancellation was closed with only 5 replies.

I really didn't think they would cancel it. I really didn't.
With all due respect the stubborn deniability of some people was going to back fire when this happened. There were enough warning signs people didn't want to listen to. I'm surprised the the news came so early, but you are better off knowing now, making the most of what you have left, than worrying up until the end.

Question is, are all the hoaxers now going to try Enterprise saved hoaxes? Don't get too excited. A lot of people have got thier hopes up with these as well.

This is sadly true. There was FAR too many clues to point to cancellation for anyone to be really surprised by this. SOme people tried hard to ignore the evidence and delude themselves into believeing in false hope rather than come to terms with the inevitable. Its better to face facts head on rather than have reality wash over you unprepared.
