Cancel Culture is a form of Stalking.

If you read the list below, everything these people do with so-called Cancel Culture is on the list of Stalking tactics.

Why is this being allowed in our country? (the USA) There is so much Dereliction of Duty and Obstruction of Justice going on by the Police.

Quite a lot of the people doing this belong in jail.

What are we doing about this?

Cancel culture or call-out culture is a contemporary phrase used to refer to a form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those subject to this ostracism are said to have been "cancelled".

Stalking is a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear. Unlike other crimes that involve a single incident, stalking is a pattern of behavior. It is often made up of individual acts that could, by themselves, seem harmless or noncriminal, but when taken in the context of a stalking situation, could constitute criminal acts. Legal definitions of stalking differ depending on where you live; however stalking is a crime under the laws of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Territories, and the Federal government. Stalking is serious, often violent, and can escalate over time.

While this list isn’t exhaustive, you may be a victim of stalking if someone:
- Repeatedly calls your phone, including hang-ups
- Follows you and shows up wherever you are
- Sends unwanted gifts, letters, texts, or emails
- Damages your home, car, or other property
- Monitors your phone calls or computer use, possibly through spyware
- Uses technology, like hidden cameras or global positioning systems (GPS), to track where you go
- Drives by or lingers near your home, school, or work
- Threatens to hurt you, your family, friends, or pets
- Performs other actions that control, track, or frighten you
- Tries to ruin your reputation or ability to get a job
- Uses other people to try to communicate with you, like children, family, or friends

Yet it never seems to work, as those “cancelled” end up never actually being cancelled.

This is a dumb thread.

Cancel Culture is the exact opposite of stalking. It's just another word for ostracism which social animals such as ourselves have been using for eons--like, actual eons--when someone steps outside the boundary of what is socially acceptable.

The church that stigmatizes the teen mother? That's cancel culture. People who say they don't like cancel culture just don't like that it has extended now to things they don't want canceled. The loudest protesters of cancel culture are largely its most fervent disciples.

Stalking is a type of predatory or manipulative / controlling behavior which may manifest in various actions such as those you've listed.

"Cancel Culture" is a fairy tale invented by those who are unhappy with the fact that actions they take may directly result in consequences they don't like very much.

To give one example: those who profess a belief in a guaranteed Right to Free Speech are often dismayed to learn that other people are not only allowed to disagree with the assertions they've Spoken Freely but are further permitted to hold and express opinions of their own.

Cancel culture is very real, and it is a deplorable behavior no matter who does it.

Bullshit.

Cancel Culture (to the small degree it exists outside the minds of terrified white men) is the ultimate expression of the market economy.

If I don't like your beliefs, especially those expressed from a platform afforded by economic success, I'm not going to buy your book or see your movie or whatever. And I'm going to encourage like-minded people to do the same.

That's actually a very democratic, capitalistic, free market process.

Where does the harassing people via social media bit fit in?

Where does the harassing people via social media bit fit in?

in the imagination of easily manipulated, mostly white, mostly male, people, mostly.
That statement may not be entirely accurate.

The overwhelming majority of the harassment which occurs on social media platforms is carried out by conservative white males, and the targets of said harassment are most often women, people of color, people who are gay / non-binary / trans, people who belong to religious groups other than conservative-Christian-evangelical ones, or anyone else "uppity" enough to be critical of the conservative white Christian patriarchy.

That is the original "cancel culture": the one conservative white males try to pretend hasn't existed all along, and from which they mean to distract by pointing their finger at others who have the nerve to criticize them.

Saying "I disagree with you" is not cancel culture.

Saying "I do not accept you as an authority" is not cancel culture..

Saying "I do not wish to listen to what you have to say" is not cancel culture.

But the menz who are being disagreed with, whose authority is not being accepted, whose words are not being listened to -- how much they wish to paint this as oppression! It's no such thing. People just don't want to unquestioningly take their word for shit anymore.
