Can we just pretend that Voyager never happened?

mahler

Lieutenant Commander
This show was such a trainwreck. Poor acting, poor writing, poor directing. This is the show that began the slow decline of Trek.

I love Aunty Kathy. So no, I will not pretend it didn't happen. Some episodes like "Threshold", "The Fight".... and a few others could be erased from memory though.

Re: Can we just pretend this thread never happened?

I recognise that all the other shows (except Enterprise) are better and probably have better characters and stories (i think DS9 comes top)

BUT Voyager is my favourite. Always will be

If you don't understand that then we just can't help you

But you are in our thoughts

Of course you can, because it's all fiction, so none of it really happened anyway.

But if you mean, "Can we just pretend that Voyager never happened, per in-universe?"...then, no we can't, because it happened in-universe.

Voyager was a good show with a good premise, good charaters and good actors.

Unfortunately, those in charge messed it up in the later seasons.

But as someone wrote in a post above, it's possible to save the show by omitting certain events.

1. See the events in "Threshold" as a nightmare Janeway had after eating too much of Neelix's food.

2. Forget the "Sky Spirits" rubbish in "Tattoo" and focus on Chakotay's relationship to his father instead.

3. Forget a certain insulting, character-destroying crap episode in season 6 and replace it with my story "Coming Home" which can be found on my "Kes Website".

4. Pretend that Lt Carey wasn't killed of and pretend that "Homestead" never happened. Nelix's place is with his colleagues and friends.

5. Pretend that "Endgame" never happened. They arrived home in another way.

Threshold is sooo misunderstood.

VOY had some great acting, some might not like the stories for whatever reason but there was top actors there.

You can pretend TATV was a Voyager episode. These Are the Voyagers

How about "no". :vulcan:

I'd rather pretend it had around 50-60 episodes. Through that lens, it's a good show with some missed potential.

This. I *like* Voyager. I think it's got some excellent material, some of the best in Star Trek in fact, but it doesn't have seven seasons worth of it. Take the very best episodes from each season and you'd have a nice little package deal of great Star Trek. I can take or leave the rest, but there are episodes of Voyager I return to time and time again, because they are actually just that good. :)

In the season of goodwill toward men, 'tis the season for people disappointed with their presents to bash Voyager once again.

One wonders if they only do it because they got another piece of coal in their stocking, to add to their ever growing pile of pieces of coal from previous Christmases.

Voyager definitely had more good episodes than bad ones. Though I rate it under TNG and DS9, it was still a good series IMHO.

Also, I didn't like Threshold because they could cure the lizard-syndrome yet never thought to use Tom's modifications, put everyone in stasis pods, set the ship on autopilot, and have the Doctor restore everyone when they were back in the Alpha quadrant.

I used to feel this way, but after recently rewatching highlights from TNG, DS9, and VOY with my daughter, I realized Voyager DID have some good episodes, and perhaps I have previously been slightly too hard on Janeway. I'd keep it. But I do agree with bountifulboxesjeg 100% about the problem with Threshold, and have since it first aired.

Why post in a Voy forum hoping for like mindedness? I won't pretend it didn't happen. It had lost potential but it has been a beacon in my life. That outweighs the disappointments.

I'd say, "Get off my bridge." But the joke might be seem as attacking an opinion, which we're allowed to have.

I wish we pretend the episodes didn't happen, and have them rebooted in a new series with Kate Mulgrew as Janeway, and with good writing this time around. It's my favourite show in terms of setting – the long journey home, stuck to work together with honourable fugitives, uncharted territory, a fight for survival, tense journey deep within Borg space, the humanization of a holographic Doctor and a Borg crewmember, guest starring by Sarah Silverman and lots of time travel. My kind of poison. Not to mention the great performances of Kate Mulgrew, Roxann Dawson, Robert Picardo and others. It's remarkable how you can have all that and ruin it, but they did.
