Spoilers Can we itemize PIC S2 canonical mistakes.

Well, considering I don't know one single fan in real life that thinks Discovery is a good show, (a first for me) I'm gonna go with the vocal segment being at least half of the fans. At LEAST.

It’s funny, I remember this exact same debate in 2002 only it was about Enterprise. And then it got cancelled after 4 seasons.

So, just like every other Trek show before it? I remember arguing with my friends about TOS vs. TNG, TNG vs. DS9 and how terrible DS9 was for being on a station and how Voyager was going to kick DS9's rear end.

In other words, to quote the great Solomon, "There is nothing new under the sun. It is all vanity, chasing after the wind."

Yeah I was around for all that too. It's way worse for Discovery.

First week on the internet?

Cos the hate Disco gets seems less to me than the carnage around Enterprise in the 2000's, Star Trek in 2009 or Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013.

I think the biggest difference is that these days you have the ultra right wing Star Trek fans (there's an oxymoron) constantly screaming about wokeness and the "left wing agenda". As opposed to Enterprise, where the most vocal arguments against it were over the "Akiraprise" and Faith of the Heart. Enterprise was disliked over mostly petty things. Discovery is disliked viciously as some kind of an affront to a certain segment of the populations (morons) way of life.

Tell you what. Conduct a scientific poll of Star Trek fans and then maybe you can say you're not talking out of your ass.

But in the meantime, not a single episode of Enterprise was as good as the Discovery episode "Forget Me Not."

Nope, been on the Internet since it became a thing.
I once saw JJ Abrams face cut out and made into urinal targets because of the 2009 movie.

Disco gets grief for LGBTQIA+ and a black female lead but that's just dumb noise from insecure older white men terrified of becoming obsolete, and symptomatic of a far larger problem than anything to do with Star Trek. The actual critiques of the show itself are far tamer than Enterprise got back in the day. Pretty sure waybackmachine had a few choice pages from TBBS back then.

Good luck with that .. Some people here love to sea lion...

Discovery is far more structurally polarizing than ENT, that's for sure. It certainly doesn't go for a broader middle of the road audience. I agree with Red Letter Media that parts of NuTrek are secular blasphemy. It would be great to do a survey of STD vs DSC/DIS people, asking where they fall on the Hidden Tribes report of political typology and also their MBTI type. I'm guessing progressive activists and NF types would be overrepresented among the DSC/DIS people, while moderate liberals and NT types among the STDers. Probably best a topic for TNZ or Reddit.

That said, Picard season 2 ~mostly~ does a good job sticking with canon, Guinan excepted. It manages to maintain constructive ambiguity about when exactly the Eugenics Wars happened, easter egg past time travel stories, and even respect TOS's much more expansive expections of early 21st century space travel. "The Star Gazer" feels like a "real" Star Trek episode. As it was actually shot last with the most influence of Terry Matalas, it's a reason to be hopeful for season 3.

Don't you remember the shit Voyager got too on BBSes, usenet groups, and AOL/IRC chats? It was just as wildly misogynistic as most of the bullshit around Discovery.

Plus the racism over having a black vulcan.

RLM is the literal embodiment of the toxic fanbase and irrational anger over properties. They nurtured the kind of people who harass actors, scream online, and make clickbait hate videos on YouTube. They are the worst of the worst.

OK, I know RLM has a reputation for disliking new Star Trek, but I think you're being a little extreme. Yes, they hate it. But they don't just hate it for no reason. I find that they actually present well thought out arguments and present them with material to support their beliefs. Do I agree with them? Not really. But they do present an objective opinion.

As for the rest of what you said, I don't know where you're getting that from. If anything, they have a severe distaste for "fan boy culture". How have they nutured people who harasss actors online? Hell, Mike was brought to tears when that thing with Shatner happened. They are consistently, one of the most entertaining, well produced channels on YouTube. Unless you can't see beyond Mr. Plinkett, which again, were incredibly well thought out and reasonable videos.

Yes, they hate "NuTrek". Or atleast Disco and Picard. But they are not Doomcock, or anything like his "type". They have an opinion I don't happen to agree with, but I respect it all the same.

Their catch phrase did get name dropped in "The Star Gazer"... Half in the bag, anyone? And they were very fair to "The Star Gazer" in their own review (unlike at least two other YouTube pundits)... I don't see the problem with insisting Star Trek hold itself up to the past standards of the franchise... especially with much higher budgets and more favorable production schedules.
