Can I get suggestions on how owning a gun is a "God given" right?

http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t1.../nr-brooke-nra-gun-control-chris-cox-intv.cnn

This interview with Chris Cox from the NRA is interesting, and I don't want to debate gun control or anything. But near the end of the interview, he says, he stresses, that gun ownership is a "God given right."

Can someone explain this to me? Is this in the Bible somewhere?

Sure!

GOD BLESS AMERICA! AMERICA IS FOUNDED AS A CHRISTIAN NATION! + 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS! = GOD GUARANTEES GUNS.

It's very simple.

In the Real Bible, the quote is "Thou shall not kill, unless its with a gun...then get'er done."

Leviticus is also edited down to "No gheys. Tattoos and shrimp are cool."

As a serious answer, I assume they add it to the "inalienable rights" that are "endowed by our creator" where the creator (used in a deist sense) becomes God. Of course, even most pro-gun people don't think gun rights are inalienable. Violent murderers aren't allowed to have guns, for example.

Yes, it would be assumed under natural law theory's right to viable self-defense (and thus arms), since attackers would be assumed to have guns, too.

Matthew 5:38-39 (New Schwarzenegger Version)
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ I say to you, resist the one who is evil. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him, claim to be standing thine ground, uttereth a catchphrase, and blasteth that mother-knower with thou righteous 12-Gauge Autoloader."

Of course it's not in the Bible. But no one has ever been hurt by appealing to a right wing audience afraid of Obama taking their guns with the argument that God is on your side on this issue. That's about all there is to it.

David killed Goliath using a sling, a projectile weapon. Guns are projectile weapons. Therefore, I think an argument could be made that God wants us to have guns. ;)

^ With your avatar, I read that Bible passage in Linus' voice.

It's older Linus, from when he grew up and became a bit more ruthless.

Of course, it also says that God is totally cool with desecrating the bodies of your deceased enemies and using them as a warning to others not to fuck with you. God was pretty gangsta like that.

God gave other animals weapons like teeth and claws, but omitted us so we can prove our gifts by making them ourselves.

(Partially serious answer, except for the "God" part.)

I think that's a bit of an assumption there. Really all it says is you have a God-given right to self-defense and a right to a gun only if the attacker has a gun, which isn't necessarily something that can be presumed.

Although I pointed it out earlier, but I'll ask directly. Do you think the right to carry a firearm is an inalienable right?

In my state, the constitution prohibits even questioning that right. :D

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms, in defense of themselves and of their state, shall not be questioned."

Currently my state is thinking of adding an inalienable right to hunting and fishing to the constitution.

I think society will eventually abandon firearms as better weapons are developed.

stupid people like guns.

stupid people like religion.

therefore: jebus invented gunpowder to defeat the terrorists!
