When we have practical beam weapons or sonic weapons or whatever, firearms will still be used for recreation. Bows and arrows weren't abandoned when firearms were invented -- we just turned archery into a hobby or sport.

Very true. I still have muzzle loaders (and occassionally make bows, one of which was highly praised by a US archery champion - in primitive archery where there are probably 50 sub-categories. In muzzle loading, you can win the US womens championship in the category that breaks down as woodland Indian costume, flintlock, fixed sights, false muzzle, loose powder).
