Can "Articles of the Federation" be read standalone?

^ And I think we haven't seen the last of President Bacco... after all, I have this TNG trilogy I'm writing....

Esperanza was another favorite, if you can include her somehow :).

And there was a little loose end that Articles never tied up, as far as I remember: Early on in the book there's a subplot about a Nasat Z4 Blue is championing for to be appointed to the technology council, but it's never revealed who Bacco ended up picking, only judiciary and government oversight pop up again. If by chance you have some reason to mention the technology council ...

(I took note because I really enjoyed Pattie on SCE, and in particular Heather Jarman's SCE story set on the Nasat homeworld.)

That would be Mr. C29 Green, who according to A Singular Destiny indeed ended up on the Technology Council. :)

Ah, I checked Memory Beta after posting but it doesn't list an appearance in ASD :). Thanks!

PRESIDENT BACCO DIES! DAVID MACK IS KILLING HER OFF! ALERT THE INTERWEBS!

I always wanted to start a rumour!

There are only two rules of survival in Star Trek: Don't wear a red shirt, and don't appear in a David Mack book.

Sooooooo...who's going to replace Bacco? No VP...

I like the cut of the gyp of the Councillor from Gallifrux Seven, any other bidders?

For the record, the recently-released cover blurbs for DRGIII's upcoming Typhon Pact duology establish that President Bacco will appear in those novels, too.

OK, that evil smiley is making me a little nervous.

Needn't necessarily mean you've got to be nervous. Mack has a darker, more cynical take on Bacco than KRAD does, IMO -- she's a much more morally ambiguous political actor in Zero Sum Game than she is in Articles. The evil face may just be referring to that.

The Federation Council would appoint one of their own to serve as Federation President Pro Tempore for one month while a new election is called.

Assuming the Federation would be stable enough to hold an election?

This is David Mack Destroyer of Worlds(TM) we're talking about here!
