Becuase if Benjamin Franklin wasn't a traitor to the British Crown, you'd still be British.
Eh. Maybe. Assuming a counter-factual in which the British colonies of central North America never became independent, I think it's more likely that the Thirteen Colonies would have eventually been consolidated into a smaller number of regional self-governing units that would have been given Dominion status like Canada was after Confederation, and that those American dominions would then have gained sovereignty as part of the British Commonwealth under the Statute of Westminster 1931. (Of course, that's overlooking important questions like whether or not those colonies/dominions would have continued pushing west to conquer the rest of central North America, or whether the social pressures that produced the American Revolution, Indian Removal, the Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, and the Indian Wars could realistically have been avoided.)
