Camping - Yay or Nay

Have you ever been camping

I love camping, but I mean actual "sleep in a tent without electricity or plumbing," not "drive an RV to a campground and watch TV in it."

Yep. Took a group of Scouts camping this June. The 50 mile an hour wind one night was a little unsettling, as well as the lightning and thunder that night, but everybody survived.

We're looking at probably around 10 nights this year if not a little more.

Every summer I go camping in Vermont. It's a tradition my family has, and requires over 16 hours of travel. The destination is a very popular telescope makers convention that was started in the early 1920's. It's also very notorious for its weather where it's not unheard of for some tents to get flooded in some years. A few years ago we were on the edges of a hurricane.

+1

Sometimes I even omit the tent. They're a hassle to set up anyway.

Walk-in camp sites are the best. I like the ones that are just far enough "out there" that there isn't anyone else around, but still close enough to bring a small cooler without killing yourself.

It's been a long, long time, but yes, I have been camping. I used to do it every year when I was in Scouts.

Ah cool, another Scout leader on the board. I've not taken mine on that many nights away this year, I am in the process of planning a camp for next month.

As for the OP, yes I love camping, I honestly don't go as often as I'd like and some of my best nights sleep has been under canvas.

As for bad weather on camp, I've had tents blow away when I was younger and in 2002, half a camp site was abandoned due to torrential rain over a day and a half. I stayed, but the night it was raining, I was watching another Venture Unit dig some ditches around their tents while I drank some Pimms!

I was a Girl Scout for 11 years, so I've been camping a time or two zillion. I love it. I haven't been camping in a really long time, though. I don't want to go by myself because that's no fun, but my friends/family aren't into camping.

I'm in the same boat.

Maybe a TBBS camping meet up? I'll bring the axe.

...And the guac.

I did once.

We walked like a million miles to find the "right" spot, tried to set up the tents without much success, eat some scorched sausages, drank ourself stupid because there was nothing else to do, slept uneasily on uneven ground, and woke up wasted.

On the way back, I fell into a creek.

Never again.

Another one here! I'm an Eagle Scout, and I was the den leader for my oldest son's Cub Scout den, and now I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster for his troop, so yeah, I've been on a campout or two. :D

Yeah, I've been camping. Never been a fan of the whole tent thing though. I'm more of a 120 000€ RV type of guy. Those were the times. Running hot water, 3G Internet, 42 plasma, Xbox.

*Scowl*

Don't look at me like that. Its still camping! I'm just using my connections.

Yes, my family went camping all the time when I was a kid, probably about once a month. I have so many fond memories of different campgrounds we've been to. Actually, the picture in my avatar was taken at my favorite campground up in the Sierra Nevadas. I like camping of all types, in a tent, bed of a truck, trailer, RV, cabin, it all works for me. Must have a hammock to string between two trees, a deck of cards, and a Penny Press puzzle book. :)
