Why would it have windows with bright light shining through if it were on the edge? There's no source for bright light outside the ship.
Beam out? Cornwell could have done a hero roll out of the room before the door fully closed if she wanted to. But apparently the point was that she wanted to die - in the final scenes, we learn she was a big name in S31, and would probably have been accused of the whole mess. A life sentence in utter infamy she could handle. But not this recently introduced treatment for the criminally ill... Why, she had probably been part of the developing team in the previous stage of her shady career, working closely with Dr. Adams.
The whole blast door business is silly beyond belief. So this one door fails, and nevertheless stops the blast in the end - while the other door that worked as it should achieves absolutely nothing and is blown to smithereens, along with a big chunk of the saucer? And since they padded out one episode into two, the torp takes fifteen minutes to blow - why not do a dozen obvious things like separate the saucer and ram it down the S31 throat complete with the torp; saw off the torp with a hand phaser (with five minutes to spare once that job is done); hold a meeting at the Observation Lounge to call for opinions; send one of those silly robots to pull the hand lever (and why aren't there levers on both sides of that door)? But as a vehicle for two people who both contemplate suicide in the middle of a fight they are certain to lose anyway, it's okay.
