Call Of Duty 6 a Sci-Fi shooter??

The latest issue of Xbox World 360 claims that one of their employees somehow gained access to information they believe confirms the existence of an Infinity Ward Sci-Fi game while attending a recent Call of Duty 4 event. However, the magazine does not go as far as to claim the game will have anything to do with the popular Call of Duty franchise.
While Infinity Ward openly discussed their intent to venture into new areas of gaming on their official blog shortly after their announced extension with Activision, there is no evidence pointing to a Sci-Fi based Call of Duty sequel.
I reached out to a producer within Infinity Ward regarding the next installment of Call of Duty a few days ago, asking specially if the next COD would have the same modern setting, or if the studio had plans to change things up. I was told that nothing could really be said about their next project just yet, and that they were still in the very early stages of development.
With that, those who believe the production for a Call of Duty sequel would have likely begun months ago, may be inclined to believe that Infinity Ward has is in fact developing a brand new IP instead. The only certainty here, is that nothing is certain, and only time will tell."

I personally hope it's a new IP but I'm in either way.

COD6 becoming a sci-fi FPS game makes as much sense as Halo become a WW2 shooter.

If anything it's a new IP.

... I don't know, why not?

COD shifted time frames from WW2 to modern already - it moving to a future setting would be about as surprising as BF2142 - which wasn't surprising at all.

I'll pretty much play any game IW puts out, particularly a SciFi shooter. I don't really care if it's a whole new IP or just COD6: Future Warfare.

Intellectual Property.

And, I dunno. I moderately liked BF2142, so having an actual large scale gritty SF based shooter in the CoD vein might be interesting. But yeah, I imagine it's a new IP rather than a proper CoD. That said, unless they keep making up fake wars in modern contexts, they're going to veer off into SF territory anyway.

Intellectual Property. In other words, the name of the game, in-game universe, etc. Call of Duty is an IP. If they're going for a new IP with a sci-fi bent, it won't be connected with Call of Duty or any other IP, it will stand alone. They wouldn't need a new IP to continue the COD franchise.

Thanks.

Hadn't heard the term applied that way before, I guess I normally think of the term "franchise" to describe that.

Between this and me not knowing what was going on the world of Xbox just shows you how out of touch with gaming I am, and here I thought I was a GAMER.

It depends on how sci-fi we're talking about. Despite being modern and based on fictional events, COD4 is still very much grounded in today's war environs. IMO, throwing in completely fictional and unrealistic weapons is best left to a new game and not to a COD sequel.

Like I said either way I'll get it because I trust IW.

That said I hope it stays Human on Human.
People say WWII is done to death but I think our world against their world has been done to death.
I'd like to see a frontline fuel of war type atmosphere but using COD4 style of game play.
And Yeah I know there are plenty of those games coming out too but I'd like to see Infinity Ward's take on it.

Lets face it kids, there aren't a ton of new game ideas out there right now, that's why we liked BioShock so much, it was a bit different.

I don't think a scifi FPS has to be full of "unrealistic" weapons. There are weapons specialists already designing the next generation of weapons-IW could consult with some of them to give a scifi FPS a realistic feel...

I don't care what it's about, I just hope they get rid of that annoying 'enemies will infinitely respawn until you capture whatever house/bunker/building that they're coming out of' feature.

Seriously, I must have shot about 500 Germans coming out of the same farmhouse on COD3.

Most people hate the Infinity Ward CoD games, and it has been rumours that there will be more time between games. Infinity Ward contract I also think is up, so time to move on.... to more shooters. :)

Those 10 million copies sold of COD 4 proves your point...Welcome to BigDaddy's world where his opinion is everyones :p

Didn't some other company make Call of Duty 4? All I remember is a lot of fanboys hate CoD3 and I thought that was Infinity Ward.

I however LOVE CoD3, and haven't played 4 yet.

It was said the other day that Activision is working on a new FPS IP so I think Infinity Ward will be doing that inbetween COD games. Latest news points that IW are going to a Battlefield route for future COD games which sucks because I want something different and any fool can use a vechile.

Treyarch made Call of Duty 3, and are also making the next installment in the CoD franchise, Call of Duty: World at War. Infinity Ward was comprised of former EA vets who worked on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and left to create CoD.

Personally I'm starting to get a little tired of all these shooters, I think we've had a fair deal of really good ones this generation, but there are tons more on the horizon, I just hope they start to do more interesting things with first person perspective games (Mirror's Edge springs to mind).
