Bye-Bye Ponds?

At last the worst companion ever in Who is going, without Amy the series may be worth watching again. And as a bonus Rory is also going. Hope Moffat actually casts a good actress rather than someone he can perv over this time.

I'll be sad to see them gone for good, but it's time to move onto a new companion(s). I hope they don't kill them off, but rather the heartbreaking nature of their departure involves River Song's final fate as suggested by 23skidoo.

Either way, they need to be in the 50th anniversary.

No I heard the next companion would be Kate Winslet

;)
Hey! Sophia Myles was asking Moffat for a lunch meeting on Twitter; maybe it's going to be Reinette and the eleventh Doctor. :)

The new companion hasn't been cast (and it's rumored that they're looking at actresses in LA after the New Year), but there's supposed to be some sort of announcement tomorrow.

Isn't it a bit early to be casting about for the new companion? The next series hasn't even started filming yet and won't even finish airing until sometime in 2013.

I think I am just so used to my American shows that have the same cast (more or less) for their entire run. It's so weird watching a show where people expect the cast to change after a couple seasons.

Phrases like "Amy and Rory have run their course" are just so foreign to me. They've only run their course if the writers decide they have. They could just as easily continue writing good stories with the same characters for years and years.

I like the Ponds, especially Rory, but I don't think there's much left for them to do. I'd like to see them wrap up their storyline and send them off to a happy life.

They'd have to start first.

Badum-tish.

Thank you. I'll be here all week.

Seriously though, in America they can pay people enough money that they don't care they're making the same episode of "CSI: Alabama" or "Law & Order: Parking Violations Unit" 22 times a year for a decade.

In the UK not so much.

I just feel like, if I were a part of a huge cultural phenomenon like Doctor Who, I would want to stick with it for a while. There will be lots of time to do other work.

I would really enjoy it if a companion was around for 5-6 years and got to be with two different Doctors for a longer time. Maybe two or three years with a Doctor before he regenerates. I feel like it would be that much more heartbreaking for the companion.

It kind of worked for Rose after Chris Eccleston left, but just imagine the impact it would have had if they had been together for an extra year or two.

"Heartbreaking" departure? I thought they'd already done one? :klingon:

Why do the companions I hate (Rose, Amy) just keep hanging on forever, while the really awesome ones (Donna) only stick around for a single season? :(

I just hope we get an interestign companion next time round?

Well it's been rumoured for a while now. Darvill obviously doing theatre wil clash with filming as suspected. Read about Gillan this morning.

I actually like Amy and Rory. I'm not ashamed to admit it just a bonus that Karen is hot.

But as Who has proven over the years, it's better to move on than to be stuck in a rut.

Can't wait for Gillan as Jean Shrimpton. Mmm, those classic shots posed by Gillan. =p

This is sad if not unexpected news. I'll miss them when they leave. I think Amy and Rory were terrific. Seems we don't have companions last for more than two series on New Who before they get more work or decide to move on. It will be interesting to see who is cast as the new companion, also would this assume that they'll be a new companion for the 50th Anniversary Special or after?

I will be glad to see the back of Rory.

His bumbling idiot routine isn't funny and he isn't convincing when being heroic.
He's too much of a wuss for me!

If they're going to have male companions then they need to be stronger as characters (like Harry was, or Jack, once he'd grown up). A bit more of an opposite to the Doctor.
Even though Turlough was a git at least he had an edge to his persona and storyline.

As someone posted earlier, I wouldn't mind seeing Clyde and Rani. They're part of the family and they kind of deserve it! Plus, frankly, they're both more grown up then Rory!!!

I'll be sad to see Rory and Amy go (especially Amy!) but it is probably about time. I don't mind a heartbreaking ending but does Moff seriously have to tell us a year in advance?

That said of course, he doesn't always tell the truth ;)

It'll be nice to see how Matt interacts with another companion. Would love it to be Clani, shame the doctor from the God Complex died, she'd have been ace...well not Ace but you get my drift.

I'll miss them but they got a good 3 series run unlike others. It will be nice to see the doctor hanging around with someone else for a change and it's sure to provide some emotional depth.

Off the top of my head, ER, NYPD Blue, the various Law and Orders, 24, Prison Break, Homicide, CSI and others have changed their line-ups fairly frequently. It's not a purely UK phenomenon.
