Buying the new uniforms...

Oh, you guys are cruel!
I do like the Nero suit. Someone posted a link to the actual ninja-toe boots the Romulans wore in the film, so I might have to start assembling my Halloween costume. I have long hair (for a guy) so my Nero will be a hippie - no baldness for me. I'll draw the tats on my face, add the ears.
I was the Joker for last Halloween, so the long hair worked. If I knew how to post pics, I'd include my Joker pic.

I ordered a TOS Nurse Chapel uniform. It should come in next month.

But I am tempted to get a NuTrek women's uni like Uhura's. I just wish they had it in blue. I look better in blue.

I kind of want the red dress costume for Halloween, but it looks rather short. (It must be if the girl is wearing it with dark tights/leggings).

They had a couple uniforms at toys r us and my 9 yo son frieked out. "Aw I wana Spock one! Pleeease......." Made me so proud. I was sad we didn't have the money for it at the time. There was only 2 there. A Kirk And a Spock. He was real excited when I photo shopped his mom as a Vulcan too. (Wich she is now my avitar.) I guess we now found his favorite Character.

Can anyone who has bought any of the nuTrek uniforms post a pic? Who knows how doctored up the ones are on the sites, and I'd like to see one in the wild.

Thanks!

The pics aren't as doctored as they are... wrong. It could be they're showing one of the test uniforms, or the Legacy/premium uniforms on the cover, but whats in the packaging is a bit different than whats on the cover. For the Deluxe anyway...

..thats the blue shirt with the black collar removed. The collar is 15% spandex but while tight around the neck a little baggy and annoying. Which is why I removed it.

I'm tweaking mines for something and put up the progress here for my own record, though figured it may hep at least three other people ;) It's got some close up's of the detail (braids/patch) and not just filled with my mods so may be useful to have a peek if you want to see a better example of what you'd be getting.

james - great progress on your blog!

I saw the costumes used in the movie (all main crew, including Pike, Nero and Spock's Delta Vega outfit) at the Star Trek Exhibition here in Philly. Rubie's got the fabric close to spot on, as far as the delta pattern.

What I think is funny is that Rubie's deluxe version is actually not as close to the movie-worn one as the standard costume they're offering.

The insignia looks to be a resin-molded piece, and the ones I saw at the Exhibition were not on the uniforms; they were on a separate stand in the case, which leads me to think that they were adhered by a strong double-sided tape or some kind of adhesive for the movie. It isn't embroidered.

The rank stripes look to be a heat applied transfer of some kind, and not in direct light to be grayish, but seem to be a reflective material to look silver in direct light, kind of what you would see on some clothing worn while biking or hiking at night.

Kirk's black shirt looked to be something easily done with a black long sleeved T shirt.

The insignia pattern on that looked to be as if you took the insignia with adhesive on the back, put it on, then took it off, leaving a reflective residue there in the shape of the insignia.

I'm going back to the Exhibition, so I'll look more and see what else I can see.

Awesome info - cheers :)

I found it hard to find a good shot of the whole outfit, the best I had was a hi-res pic I googled. I never thought to hunt down reflective material for the braids - but I could tell it was a transfer and seemed more white than gray/silver in a lot of shots so the white ribbon was the best I could find with my limited resources... which made me end up using overlay ribbon for the shoulder/collar as I figured the best way to get it screen accurate was beyond my abilities without my sewing machine.

The insignia seems to be the hardest part - I'm either going to hunt down resin pins or try the harder route of making one myself out of rubber. An unlikely option as I've never tried anyting like that before, but it'd be easier to sew over the patch that comes with the outfit. I have ages to go... so leavng that 'till last.

Great! Thanks for the pic. This'll probably be this year's Halloween costume so I wanted to get an idea of what it looked like in the real world.

If the price is right, I just might buy one and wear it as a night shirt.

And tell everybody Dr. Mc Coy said it was an extra I could wear.

Last night I bought an extra big Kirk shirt (the black "shadows" one) and will be sleeping with him until the shirt wears out.

Ya know what really pisses me off? The mens costumes are in stock at the costume websites, but the only women's costume- which is, of course- Uhura and not in any other dammed color (I wanted a blue one), still says it's an effin' pre- order. In fact, the TOS women's costume I ordered is a "pre- order." I still don't know when I'm going to get it.

But if you want a men's costume, just belly up to the bar and they're right here, waiting for you. For God's sake- could be have a little parity here?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm with you. I'd love one in blue (actually, I'd LOVE one in TOS green). Red is such a bad color on me, so I guess I get to save my money.

It's possible that someone out there will use some method to make the material and sell it on eBay. Ideas for making it are mentioned on the Uniform Guide - though being lazy and knowing I'd botch it I'd rather modify the Rubies outfit for the dressing up occasion planned in the near future.

You might want to check here. GotMaul of the RPF is not only spooling up for a run of the shirt fabric (recreated with the same spandex and dye used in the film), but eventually completed uniforms at some unspecified date. It's pricey, though.

I got myself a TOS command t-shirt from the comic shop before the movie and wore it and I have been looking for an 09 Uniform top but haven't been able to find one. I liked the stream lined look of them.

It is a little annoying, I never liked the style (even TOS) in yellow but the blue would have been a nice addition. Maybe if we have someone in the blue dress in the sequel it'll happen.

It's not something I could afford unless business picked up - but definatly one to bookmark/keep an eye on for his progress.

I just wish I had my sewing machine with me in Glasgow, instead of packed up in storage on the other side of the country.
