Burning House

Can I read this without reading any of the other Klingon novels by KRAD? Is it a stand-alone, or do I need to read other novels first?

I'd say that while it probably could be read alone, if you want maximum enjoyment it shouldn't be. It's a continuation of several character arcs from earlier books, and while the "Klingon Empire" label represents a bit of a refocus from the "IKS Gorkon" titles, it's still very much "book four" in that series.

Damn... Burning House is the only title in this series still available through bol.com. I could try Amazon I guess, but since I'm in the Netherlands ordering through bol.com is so much easier.

Some developments might have more impact if you'd read the previous books, but I doubt you'd be lost if you started with this one. They wouldn't have rebranded the series without considering the possibility of new readers coming onboard, so you should get enough backstory on the characters to follow along just fine.

Indeed, the whole point of the rebranding/refocusing was to try to attract new readers to a struggling series. IKS Gorkon is kind of a confusing name to the uninitiated, but Klingon Empire is a lot clearer.

Sadly, it seems to of done little good in attracting readership.

Gorkon/Klingon Empire was in fact the most enjoyable series since DS9-R went wonky and right before Vanguard became the cool new kid on the block.

KRAD doing another Klingon Book would be an insta-buy and the Editors/pocket can call it whatever the hell they want as far as I'm concerned.

Whatever gets it on the damn shelf.

Maybe a series of Klingon E-Books ala SCE...

And while we're at it... How about some more SCE?

Hm. I guess I could always pick it up, and buy the othes some other time if this one interests me enough.

Give it a shot. The first three Gorkon books were quite good, but this one was a step up. It's a shame there haven't been more.

Shouldn't that be the first four books? Even though Diplomatic Implausibility was labeled as a TNG novel, it's really the "backdoor pilot" for Gorkon, the actual first novel in the series.

I know the feeling! I'd definately recommend reading the series in order though - Diplomatic Implausibility seems to be available second hand through bol at the moment, so you can start at the beginning if you want to.

Good luck and enjoy!

No he didn't - that's "The Final Artifact."

.

well, considering the actual book is called "The Brave and the Bold book 2" it'd make more sense to tell the guy the names of the actual books he wants to look for.
