Re: Burn Notice: "Bad Blood" (Michael Shanks) 8/14 - Grading & Discuss
Enjoyed the episode, but the show is getting pretty formulaic.
Michael finds out something about his tormentors, usually teased by the end of the preceding episode, but he's interrupted by some person that needs help. Michael doesn't want to help, but somehow the suckers sad story (most likely about turning their life around) convinces him to reluctantly help out even though he has his important missions dealing with Carla. Seems easy enough, and Michael takes the most direct route to solve the problem. Only something goes wrong... and now he has to go undercover! This leads to lots of tense action where he has to convince the bad guy that he is who he says he is, which seems to go ok at first. But then he almost blows the whole thing, and Michael, via voice over, explains some interesting counter intuitive spy lore, which usually pushes the envelope enough to make the guy trust him. In the end he uses that trust to get that bad guy killed by his own guys, who are actually probably worse than the original bad guy that got killed, and get away scott free. The episode winds down with the client offering money or something, which gets turned down. Then you get hook for next episode, which ends up being the next breadcrumb in the Calra saga.
As much as I enjoy the show right now, I can see myself getting tired of the formula if they don't change things up soon.
