Buffy TVS Reboot Confirmed

I don't have a particular problem with them rebooting the show, although on a personal level I would like them to do a continuation focussed on different characters, so they can bring some elements of the old show in, so that we might find out what happened to Buffy, Willow etc.

It's a solid concept though, I'm sure a good show can be made in either case.

A continuation already exists in comic form, and has for a decade.

It's also coming to an end.

Also, there's been a desire within the industry from executives to reboot Buffy for years, but the hurdle was that Joss wasn't interested in being involved, which was the death knell since he holds 100% creative control over the property.

What's changed now is that Joss has found someone - Ms. Owusu-Breen - with whom he's willing to cooperate and to whom he's willing to "hand the baton".

I'm aware of them, but that doesn't matter to the majority of the viewing public though, who don't read comics. I don't, and if it didn't happen in the TV show then it didn't happen AFAIAC.

I'm sure established non TV canon would be thrown out of the window in a heartbeat in that scenario anyway. Although it doesn't look like it's going to happen in any case.

Good stuff, presumably he is confident in it then.

That's not how it works.

You assume incorrectly.

I wonder if their has ever been any attempt to bring back a version of this franchise with a Kristy Swanson version of Buffy? The movie was from what I recall a cult hit at the time so someone must have liked it enough to want to make a show about it beyond just Joss Whedon.

Jason
It was crap.

I think "Orphan Black" was set in Canada.
Orphan Black was produced by a Canadian company, along with BBC America and the Candadian network Space. It was more of a Candadian show than an American show.
"Westworld" is set somewhere I am not sure but it's not America unless my idea is true about all the park's being located in what once was America
. Technically the show appears to be set in formerly Chinese territory, but the island was bought and now controlled by an American company, so it was more American than Chinese.
Hercules and Xena back in the day were set in Greese and filmed in Austrilia.
It was based on Ancient Greek mythology, so those aren't really stories you can tell in modern day American.
"Farscape" was filmed in Australia or New Zealand. I forget, which it was.
Yes, but the hero was American, most of the cultural references were American, and when they went to Earth they were in the US. It was filmed in Australia.

That would probably depend on what they did with the show. If it was focused on new group of characters, they could leave the comics intact. Any big world changing events could always be referred to as being due to the actions of Buffy & Co. offscreen, or even adapted from the comics as an opportunity for appearances from the original cast.

To clarify:

HERCULES and XENA were filmed in New Zealand. FARSCAPE was filmed in Australia.

New Zealand is the part of Australia that's not desert and is where living things that aren't poisonous alien monstrosities live, right?

For some reason I`m not as remotely excited for this as for the Charmed reboot..where it seems they´re going for a darker and grittier version. But Buffy...I don´t know...1. it´s Joss doing it again..which some might see as a good thing, but it might actually be bad. I fear he might be burned out on the topic and not be able to really reinvent the show to actually deliver something new and exiting. 2. Charmed was pretty much finished..it didn´t have that much going to naturally lend itself to a continuation...so the reboot-route is probably the best. But Buffy could have easily continued...but now too much time has passed since it ended..so you would either have to do a big "flash forward" in time...or recast with younger actors. I would prefer both to a full on reboot.
