Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

I was more shocked about the character than the GOTG gig. Ironic* that both have had to work with rehabilitating their image recently.

I've got You Under My Skin
I really liked that episode. It was about an Ethero Demon inhabiting a young child, while the father was just trying to keep his family together, and we learn more about Wesley's childhood and his "history" with failure. I also liked the twist at the end that the Demon was actually trying to Kill Ryan, who was worse than he was. They had set this episode up at first of it being the Father who was possessed and I almost rolled my eyes, thinking, here we go again, another episode where the Father is the bad guy. Thankfully that didn't happen, and the father actually turned into a pretty good guy. There was an X-Files vibe to this episode, but then this season has focused a lot on Demons to the point where I wonder if the reason this show exists is because the X-Files was so good at Demon stories and Angel was an interesting character to have a spin off show. Still, as far as episodic episodes this season goes, this one was really good. It might be a top 5 episode of the season for me.
I really liked that episode. The Prodigal
We got more development of Angel and Darla is featured for the first time. When I rewatch Buffy in a year or so, I'm actually going to focus more on Darla. I forgot she was the first character we really saw in the entire Buffy-Universe, yet I didn't realize how big of a character she would be, especially in the 1700s era siring Angel and having the four of them (Darla, Angelus, Spike, and Drusilla) together. Also, this episode was another one about Father issues, and trying to redeem Kate's dad, even though I was close to not buying it. Of course they kill him off when he finally starts noticing Kate, but that's drama for you. The present story I could take or leave. I'm really interested in the flashbacks, especially watching Angel becoming Angelus because he walked out on his father.
And we found out Angel's real name was Liam. So you had William the Bloody, and Liam the psycho, and Drusilla the mentally unstable. Man I'm so looking forward to seeing more Darla in this series.

Also-- RE: The Prodigal-- have you seen Firefly? If so, did you notice Christina Hendricks in a very brief pre-Saffron (and pre-Mad Men, of course) role?
It's been so long since I've seen Firefly. I saw she was mentioned, but I didn't notice.
The Ring
This episode was ok, but it feels like a lot of shows that I watch have to do this slaves fight to the death thing. Voyager did it, Babylon 5 did it, Angel has an episode like this. It's pretty much the same story, the protagonist gets captured and forced to fight to the death. I did like Cordelia and Wesley having a big impact in the story though. Also we learn a little more about Wolfram and Hart, but other than that, this was an average episode.
I only vaguely remember these episodes. The first season of Angel seems to have been entirely unmemorable to me except for the major story arc events.
I really liked The Prodigal because it’s Angel’s origin story. I was sad when he killed his little sister. I thought he at least might spare her but no.

The Psychopath returns!!!
This episode is a perfect example of why I love Buffy Season 2. The way Boreanez is able to switch personalties from brooding to jolly psycho is pretty impressive. I love it when Angel becomes Angelus because it's like a switch is flipping and his personality is increased to like 11. Now this one took a little while to get going. We had Rabecca as a struggling actress coming to Angel to help deal with the stalker, even though it was pretty much all a test by her manager. That's all well and good and we actually got Angel and Rabecca drinking together. I liked the idea that Angel can turn by non-sexual means. It just has to be a moment of pure happiness and then the switch goes on.
I also thought this was a great episode for Cordelia as well. Yes her lines at the beginning were bad but it makes the ending all the more powerful when she says at least Angelus was honest. I think the thing I'm hoping to see with Angel in this series is he can be like Angelus but not evil? I could briefly see it in Buffy's finale, but with 5 seasons, I'm excited to know that even the possibility of Angelus returning has impacted Angel Investigations.

Of course not, Angel has a soul and is good looking so he can't be evil 
They do often seem just one of those obligatory concepts every sci-fi show has to do. But I have to say the end of this one when they realize what they actually just did was release a bunch of bloodthirsty demons on LA never fails to make me laugh.
She certainly has the right qualifications for the role.
I'm pretty convinced at this point that there is rule that every SFF show has to do fight club episode, and every mystery series has to do a horse racing episode.
I think you might be right. Interesting thing is I’ve never actually seen fight club, which I think is what all these stories are based on.
By the way, tonight I get to see the back half of the Faith comes out of the coma storyline, and, according to IMDB, Gellar's final episode on Angel. That means after tonight I've pretty much covered everything dealing with Gellar as Buffy. Kinda sad about that, actually.
