Buffy Seasons 6 and 7 combined into one

The Watcher's Council wouldn't have helped financially since I believe Buffy cut her ties with them. This is why in season seven Joss made a point of having Buffy get a job and you guys are making it sound like Willow and Tara didn't give a shit they were living for free in the Summer's home. Remember that they were probably doing Buffy a favor and if not for them Dawn would have no one to take care of and some how that house would have been repossessed or something with no one living in it.

Everything was second to character in BtVS. Buffy was in dire financial straits because that's where she needed to be for the writers to take her to the places they wanted to take her. Asking questions like 'why didn't Willow and Tara help re: money?' is like asking why everything in a Michael Bay movie inevitably explodes. You either get on board with it, or you don't. Don't think about it too much.

By far the most pernicious example of this behaviour are those who simply can't let go of the fact that magic was used in the series as a metaphor both for lesbian sexuality and drug addiction; thereby suggesting (in the minds of such folk) that homosexuality is unnatural and harmful and/or that Joss et al. hate lesb- AND OH GOD, DID YOU SEE HOW TARA DIED? PROOF!

This thread has taken a weird turn...remember that Joyce's death really forced all of these changes on Buffy. I think at the time it could be reasonably postulated that Buffy probably allowed Tara and Willow to live there for the company as much as anything else. Everything kind of spiraled out of control after "The Body" if you really think about it much like in Smallville after Jonathon Kent died Clark's life has never really been the same either. Buffy was forced to make changes and decisions that maybe she wouldn't have had her mother still be alive. The presence of Dawn as well complicated matters. Buffy really never needed a real world job until all of this happened.

Well I think by the time Season 7 rolled around, I think money was the least of anyone's concerns since over the course of the season the town went increasingly sparse. Probably even if no one paid the mortgage, there was no one to really bother collecting.

I tend to think that Willow and Tara did support the house at least a little - buying food and clothes and such. I mean after all Dawn had to get some new clothes every now and again and someone had to put gas in the car. And I think they established that some of Joyce's insurance did keep things paid for a while. I would have assumed that if Buffy never ever came back, they'd probably stay in the house until the bank took it. And after all it does take close to a year from time of a major default to foreclose on a house.

Then I think in mid Season 6 Giles does give Buffy a rather substantial check how much is never really said, but it's possibly enough to keep the Buffster in designer clothes and make up and the house bills mostly paid. I seriously doubt that working the Doublemeat Palace ever really was enough to provide a whole lot more than maybe just mortgage money. Although I'm thinking they had to have sold some of Joyce's "Art" to make ends meet. I mean she amassed quite a personal collection I'm sure, not everything was that always referenced but never seen "gallery".

Of course when Season 7 wrapped up, I don't think anyone had anything besides a few bucks on them, given that the entire town was swallowed up. Guess maybe Giles figured out how to rob the Watcher's Council's bank account

I really didn't like the series finale, but I enjoyed the last two episodes of season six (aside from that "Dawn, I want to show you the world!" lame cheesiness). Other than "Storyteller", I skip season 7. I think the end of season 6 would have been a more satisfying series finale and I wouldn't miss season 7, even though Nathan Fillion was pretty cool.

Hmmm.....I have just purchased seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5 because of all of the Buffy/Angel threads. I cannot for the life of me really recall anything past season 4. I am busy watching season 5 right now. What about the last two seasons really turned you guys off?

I enjoyed the last two seasons to varying degrees. Season 6 just feels slow and aimless in the middle (Buffy vs. Nerds and Fast Food), but the beginning (bringing Buffy back to life) and end (Evil Willow) of the season are absolutely fantastic.

I think Season 7 is decent, but it just gets too dark and depressing, which is annoying for how hopeful and silly it starts out. Season 7 is also the season where Buffy turns into an unlikable bitch.

Season Seven feels like an entire season of Smallville, inconsistent, main character filled with sudden uncharacteristic self doubt and preachy. Unlike Clark though Buffy doesn't isolate her friends but uses them and takes advice from them.

I didn't have a problem with either season 6 or 7 (shrugs). The series was great the way it was. In fact, on repeat viewings, I learned that I like six a lot. It was dark and depressing, yes, but it was a story Joss needed to tell. They'd been through school and college, and now LIFE itself was the big bad. Coping with the day to day pressures of being an adult. Season six had a stronger focus on the characters, and less so on the demons and supernatural elements, so I can see why some were disappointed. I thought the greater character focus was brilliant, personally.

They should have just ended it at season five. I hate what they did with Spike in the last two seasons.
