Buck Rogers is back

^ Hell, RAMA, your avatar is giving me the heebi-jeebies.

I agree very much with Farscape being the modern re-take on the Buck Rogers idea. Hadn't it really thought of it that way before.

Well, it's only vaguely like Buck Rogers. Crichton was merely transported through space to another civilization and was able to return home once or twice. Rogers moved into the future where he had to deal with the changes in his own world and was never able to return home. Farscape has as much in common with a million other things, such as Burroughs' Barsoom stories, as it does Buck Rogers.

His run on Daredevil was stylish and innovative, Dark Knight Returns was a classic, Batman: Year One was stylish and consistent with Daredevil, Ronin was self-indulgent, Sin City was worrisomely self-indulgent, the Dark Knight sequel was embarrassingly bad and All-Star Batman And Robin is time to get a court order and have him committed.

Basically, his career parallels the decline of pop culture in general. :rommie:
QFT.

The Daredevil run was amazing, throwing in Stick, the Hand, what he did with Electra, Bullseye, Ben Urich... This was a great series, innovative, tough, it was actually full of hard boiled elements remenicent of Spirit now I think of it.

DKR and Year One were great, they remade the character. Today's dark and cool and violent Batman that every fanboy loves so much is directly from that run, Miller took the last of the camp and Batmite crap out of the comic.

Since then, he's like a broken record with the needle skipping and playing the same line over and over. He's stuck in the "The Fall" there is no progress back through Hope and Redemption. It's fun to tear things down for a while, but it's a mistake to forget that these are Heroes in these stories.

If Twiki doesn't look like a walking chrome dildo with a talking canteen on its chest, I'm boycotting this film for violating canon.

:guffaw:That's great.

Seriously though, the timing couldn't be better. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Gil Gerard show. That's why it's happening, isn't it?

Personally, I don't care what it looks like, as long as it's good, and completely ignores the second season of Gerard's show.

Get this; THIS IS NOT A SEQUEL TO THE BULLSHIT 1979 SHOW!!!!!!!

It's a whole new movie about the character. And even if it does fail, I'd rather see this than see another episode of the Gil Gerard abomination.

As a fan of The Spirt I had great misgivings when I first learned that Miller was doing the big screen version of the character. From all I've read and heard they were well founded.
I felt that both he and his "stylized" approach were wrong for The Spirit and I'm having the same feelings now regarding Buck Rogers.

Buck Rogers, done the right way, could be great. I just don't see that happening with Miller at the helm.

Yes, yes, I understood that from the start, but still hope we see no more of the Searcher ever again.

But who would play Wilma Deering? It would be hard to fill Erin Gray's tights. She was my first Sci-Fi chic crush when I was just a lad.

Have you seen her lately? She's still got it. Erin Gray could play Deering again, *right now*. She is still as hot as she ever was.

The last time I saw her was on one of those VH-1 I love the whatever decade shows. And you are quite right she is still smoking hot.

So, you're saying it's a prequel then? Buck Rogers - Origins: The Rise of Dr. Theopolis perhaps?

Calm yourself before you rupture a blood vessel over a joke and some harmless discussion. Plus, lay off the all-caps and exclamation points. That stuff's bad for you.

I just hope Gil and Erin have walk-on cameos! Wouldn't that be AWESOME?! *gush*

I'd rather watch the worst episode of Gerard's show for 24 hours straight than anything Miller comes up with.

And now I'm going to go watch the opening credits for the pilot movie... Just to see Erin Grey looking all sexy as she rolls around that white table... *sigh*

I dunno about Deering, but if they made Dr. H a woman, I could see it work.

Oh please no. That making men characters into women thing has gotten old.

Will, if there's a New Chicago in this movie, will the politicians be just as corrupt as in the current city? And of course, New Chicago will be run by a Mayor Daley.
