bubble-show renewal odds: Heroes, 24, Chuck, etc

That sucks about Better Off Ted if ABC hadn't anchored it to After-Scrubs and instead put it with their Wednesday night line up,it's rating would probably be as good as the The Middle and Modern family.

Hell they should put BOT reruns on at 8pm Wed.where they don't have a show for that timeslot yet.

Untrue, Better off Ted should of been cancelled last year due to low numbers the same as Scrubs, which reached its normal conclusion with the wrap up of J.D' character. BOT pilot scored 5.64 million and ended with 2.42 million so why it was brought back is beyond me. ABC would of been better actually making season 9 of Scrubs a spinoff and advertised as such then it might of boosted ratings helping any lead out show.

I was highly disappointed that Sarah didn't work out of a Subway in Chuck Season Three. That would have been awesome.

That's what I thought was going to happen.

I could have sworn during the summer break that they said Subway would have a bigger role in Season 3.

Here's Michael Ausiello's renewal scorecard at EW.

His current scores for the SFF and comic book shows:

"A sure thing": Smallville (CW), Supernatural (CW), The Vampire Diaries (CW)

"A safe bet": Chuck (NBC), Fringe (Fox), Ghost Whisperer (CBS)

"Could go either way": FlashForward (ABC), Heroes (NBC), Human Target (Fox), Medium (CBS), V (ABC)

I think another important factor is the price tag of the show. 24 is a big action show, a movie every week, with a high price big name actor, and it's ratings are crumbling.

Ratings aside, I think the bigger factor is the announcement this past week that Fox wants to do a 24 movie, but it can't do it with a weekly series underway. So if there's more money to be made in the movies, Fox could take 24 off TV and launch a movie franchise with it (though since presumably the film would be a real-time adventure taking place over 2-2 1/2 hours, one wonders if they could keep calling it 24).

"Could go either way": FlashForward (ABC), Heroes (NBC), Human Target (Fox), Medium (CBS), V (ABC)

That makes no sense. I thought both Human Target and V were said to have done quite well. It's not V's fault its network put it on hiatus for 4 months. And Human Target last I heard was a big hit. Or is it just because they're big and splashy fantasy shows that it automatically puts them on the endangered list?

Once again, the only mainstream network shows I bother watching are all listed in the "on the bubble" category. I often wonder what it would be like if I was devoted to, I don't know, Desperate Housewives or something.

TV By the Numbers provides some context like this analysis for ABC shows. V's healthy score is an average between its strong start and relatively weak finish. A strong ad campaign might give it a boost when it comes back in the post-Lost timeslot. Even if that slot is a notorious show-killer at least it's not obscure.

The Fox chart shows that Human Target is well below the network's average, although the prediction is still for a renewal. Fox is going to need a male-skewing action series if they're really cancelling 24.

I'd highly expect 24 to be renwed.

Yeah, wouldnt surprise me either way. Lynn Rajskub has suggested differently, but would like to keep going if she had the choice. Im wondering if Sutherland is of a similar mindset.

I think he said he'd be willing to do it, if they were, but I don't know for certain.

It may not be V's fault, but that's likely not the come into play in any shape or form when they look at numbers. Personally, I think the constant hiatus's are harming the various shows, but no one seems to pay attention to that, for whatever reason. I just lost my thought on this tangent, but basically, what I meant was the the hiatus is unlikely to be considered as a factor if the ratings continue to go down, and it probably should because I remidned my father about it tonight and his expression likely meant he'd forgotten all about it.

Also, considering the fiasco with the late night shows, I can see Heroes coming back for at least one more season.

24 chances got slimmer with the Winter Games and no original lead in forcing 24 down to mid 8 million range with a 2.6 or 7 demo (I forget which one). With the games in 2010 I wonder if FOX could of moved production forward a bit and aired 24 in the fall and then Lie to Me as a non serial show could of matched House for original/repeat airings in midseason.

TV By the Numbers provides...

Oh god.

You can flip a coin and do better then they did last year.

Eh, it's a useful guide for general purposes. More to the point: I haven't found anyplace that has a better track record. Have you?

Of course there's always the plethora of renewal lists this time of year but TV By the Numbers is all year round and gets into a lot more detail than the list-compilers.

Here's another renewal list, this time for cable, in case you wanted to know Caprica's chances. The problem with these lists is that for anything that seems iffy, they just say "could go either way," which doesn't much help. :rommie: But it's interesting to know for example that Caprica isn't flat-out doomed.

Also, considering the fiasco with the late night shows, I can see Heroes coming back for at least one more season.
I agree with the predictions of a short final season of a dozen episodes or whatever is enough to get them to 100.

Wait, Rescue Me was renewed for a sixth and a seventh season? Will it never end? I have a hard time comprehending how far the show has fallen, given how good the first two seasons were.
