Bryan Singer is directing X-MEN: FIRST CLASS!

I'm betting that the studio will start twisting arms in an effort to put Wolverine in this film.

As long as James Marsden and Halle Berry stay the fuck away from this I'll be happy.

That having been said, I liked the other X-Men members previously shown and wouldn't mind seeing more of Gambit and Danny Huston's Col. Stryker.

Edit: To clarify, I don't hate the character of Cyclops, per se, I just loathe James Marsden's whiny-ass interpretation of it. I didn't mind the kid from Wolverine.

Casting Director- We can't get Patrick,Hugh, Halle, Ellen, Ian,Famke,or Alan.
Director- So who do have left?
Casting Director- Marster
Director- Marster......
Casting Director- yeah.......

^ Well, you can at least do the first three. They will probably throw Storm in there, as it was referenced that she was one of the first students (in the movies). It also gives the cast another female character.

The down side is if they do use the characters already featured in the movies, they will never be in any set danger as they are all alive and well by the time of X1.
X3 told us Beast was a student that eventually left to persue other ventures. It's possable other students (Emma Frost, for example) might join together to form other X-teams or create an "underground railroad" pipeline to the school for run away Mutant kids.

I am quite unimpressed with the return of Bryan Singer to the X-Men movie franchise. While I enjoyed what I could out of his previous forays, doubly so given this IS Fox we are talking about, his work has never impressed me anymore than say Brett Ratner's has. I have never felt Singer's X-films were as great as you guys make them out to be and I wish they had gone with someone else.

As to the story, there is one obvious event to record: How Xavier became confined to the wheelchair. Combine that with the formation of the School For Gifted Youngsters, the creation of Cerebro by Xavier and Magneto, and the growing rift in their friendship and ideologies and you have several plot points to build your character arcs around to flesh out the movie.

^ I could see that being chronicled in X-Men Origins: Magneto rather than in X-Men The First Class, unless we get some kind of flash back sequence. I would like to see this told as well, I wonder if they'll use the Ultimate X-Men explanation of their falling out?

As for Wolverine, its important to remember that Wolverine 2 will probably be out before this, so it's not like we won't have seen the guy 3 years or whatnot and the public is crying out for more of him

X-Men Origins 2: Wolverine?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2?

Wolverine the Killer Robot Driving Instructor Who Travels Back In Time For Some Reason and His Best Friend the Talking Pie?

I guess if they're going with the movie continuity the line up will be Ororo, Jean, Scott, and Hank.

Agreed, if they're sticking with the movie continuity.

Without messing with said continuity, mutants who were introduced during the First Class years include Banshee (his daughter was in X2), Sunfire, Mimic, Havoc, and Polaris. Any of these could be free for use without straying too far from the original comics.

Banshee's daughter would be Siren, I can't recall her real name right now. I wouldn't mind if they added Polaris or Havoc to the team, it would make X-Men even more interesting to know that Scott's brother was once an X-Men.

I'd go with Sunfire as a substitute for Iceman (a nice juxtaposition) and Banshee to replace Angel since his daughter is in continuity. Use the Sentinels 'cuz Giant Bad Robots are cool. Bring in Havoc and Polaris as a boy and girl whose powers are out of control with the X-Men trying to find them before the Sentinels do.

If the story was going forward instead of being a prequel, I would have used Havoc & Polaris as replacements for Cyclops & Jean.

I'm going to assume this prequel will once again have Magneto in it, so Quicksilver & Scarlett Witch are possibilities.
