It's good news, but I'll reserve really positive vibes for when and if he gets Tom DeSanto on board with him.

In all seriousness, in response to ObiwanShinobi's question, I can't really imagine Hamm as Magneto. I could see him playing various superheroes and villains but Magneto isn't one. I certainly can't imagine him playing the young version of Ian McKellen's character in a prequel to Singer's movies, which is what this one is going to be.

I was thinking about this, and it occurs to me: whatever approach they take with the character line-up, in terms of fights I'd really like to see a depiction of young mutants who aren't fully comfortable with their burgeoning powers and must use their brains in a fight, and let's see them actually work as a team. Show what each X-person has to offer in a coordinated plan, rather than just blasting and slashing.
