Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X-Men

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

He should do one of two things;

1. Make X3.

2. Set something up and get the publicity ball rolling and Fox all excited, then drop out of the project to go work on something better at a rival studio. Then, ask Fox; "HOW'S IT FEEL TO BE FUCKED, ASSHOLES!?!"

I think I'd actually rather see the 2nd option. :)

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

And 10 or so months later that is still all he's done.
No movement on Castro Street.
Any real tangible proof on Excalibur?
Talk of BSG big screen adaption.
Plenty of Returns sequel talk even during Valkyrie release, that is now dead.
Now official talks of X-Men involvement again.

One of two things will happen.
After being dormant since Valkryie in '08 he will have multiple projects hit in a short time frame.
OR
He'll have a quiet comeback with one film.

I don't think directors necessarily should be releasing a movie a year, what's wrong with taking a year off after Valkyrie to decide what he wants to do next?

I'm also curious what you mean by "a comeback movie", Valkyrie made 200 million against a 75m budget, before DVD and TV rights, it was hardly a flop.

If the media asks him what he's working on he tells them, it's not like he's running about telling anyone who will listen what he's working on.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

To be honest, I'm tired of the "Singer-verse" X-Men and their minimalist heroics.

I'd much prefer the next X-film on the big screen to be unabashedly four-color and, well...super. How about a direct adaptation of the real Phoenix/Dark Phoenix material? Preferably in traditional cell animation. Something like "Mask of the Phantasm" and/or "Public Enemies" in terms of tone and presentation.

Not gonna lie, I would LOVE that to happen. But I think we need an X-Men break before we dive into a new version of it.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a reboot similar to the First Class proposal, but not as long as X-Men remains under the control of 20th Century Fox.
I liked X-3. Kewl flick!

Two thumbs up!:bolian::bolian:

I liked it better than Superman Returns...so whatchoo say bout that? LOL!!!

I liked The Notebook better than Superman Returns.
You probably cried, too. Everybody cried at that frickin' movie.
Hell, it made me cry, and I haven't seen it. :wtf:

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

The best solution is to have Singer do a movie set between X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, it could deal with Wolverine's origins more, which I don't think were elaborated on enough.

;)
Wolverine has definitely been getting the shaft in these movies. He needs more screen time.

I know. Stupid focus was all on Cyclops to the point that they just had to put him in the supposed Wolverine movie. :klingon:

Didn't Singer already do the second option?

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

Not really. He waited for confirmation of X3, and Tom Rothman kept delaying, saying he was unsure when X3 would happen. Singer told him he had other options he'd like to do, but also wanted to complete the X-Men trilogy. Rothman told him to do whatever he wanted, so Singer pursued the Superman offer. Soon after signing on to that, Rothman said X3 was a go and would pursue it with or without Singer. Singer said he was committed to Superman, both contractually and personally, so Rothman went after new directors.

It was a typical Rothman power play in his attempt to prove who's boss. He's a snivelly little dick.

Agreed in principle...we still have W&TXM on tv for any X fix...

Here's an idea, edit together Ultimate Avengers and UA2 (since they're really one big story) and release it theatrically...that's the type of thing I want to see more of from Marvel.

The sad irony is that without Singer, we probably got a MORE "super" superhero movie than we otherwise would have gotten (Magneto and the Bridge, for example)...

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

If X4 happens it really should be done by Singer, but if they decide to reboot the X-Men in any way I would prefer someone like Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Disney/Marvel could even bring in classical mythology directors Wolfgang Petersen (Troy) or Julie Taymor (Titus) after all superheroes are modern myths now so why not bring in directors who have done classical stories like Homer or Shakespeare!:techman:

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

There are two projects that I would like to see Bryan Singer do. While this is the second in order of desire, I will still be more than happy to see it happen.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

X2 is probably my favorite live action super hero movie, and I'm excited to see Singer come back to that universe. Please, make it a sequel to Ratner's film, and rebuild the universe, no prequels, no reboots.

And bring back Nightcrawler. He was one of the best parts of X2.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

If he gets it I'll be there on opening day.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

I can only guess what the first project is. ;)

Bryan Singer doesn't need a "comeback". His last film Valkyrie was a hit and plagued by delays and several rolls of film which were destroyed causing reshoots. The fact that it came out two years after his last movie, a film that required him two long years to make, is impressive. He has several projects in development and he just signed on to direct Jack the Giant Killer next which should start filming next year. He is still a very popular and sought out director. By my estimation he's doing perfectly fine, and I look forward to whatever project he so decides to do next, whether it be an X-Men film or not.

Speaking of "Which one would he direct?", I've heard rumors that Gavin Hood is still interested in returning for Wolverine 2 despite the lackluster reception the first film received and his own hard time dealing with Tom Rothman. So my guess is that it'll either be the proposed X-Men: First Class movie which he's been rumored for or based on Singer's comments an X4.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

^ Well didn't Donner come out recently and say that she wanted an X4?

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

Exactly, so that and Singer's talks with Fox about returning to the franchise just add up that the project in question is indeed X4.

Just prior to directing Troy, Wolfgang Petersen had been attached to direct Batman vs. Superman.

I'm a huge Singer fan. Valkyrie kicked ass! (Except for the ending, but we only have history to blame for that.) Ideally, my first choice for him would be a Superman sequel. Superman Returns is one of the most underrated movies to come out in recent years. But if I can't get another Singer Superman movie, X-Men 4 would be my next choice.

While X-Men: The Last Stand had its problems, it was not irredeemable. Like others said, it's definately better than any of the recent Fantastic Four or Hulk films. And while some say it killed off too many characters, that's fixable. Cyclops was only killed off screen. The post-credits coda already implied an avenue by which Professor Xavier might come back. And sure, Jean Grey died, but she dies all the time. Plus, the ending with Magneto might imply that this cure that depowered him, Mystique, & Rogue might be only temporary.

Re: Bryan Singer has had official talks about possibly doing another X

My problem with that is if you essentially undo everything X-Men: The Last Stand did thematically then you basically take away what made that film even slightly watchable which was that it took risks and altered the course of the franchise. By bringing Xavier back, for example, makes his sacrifice useless. By giving Rogue back her powers removes the impact that was made by her weighty conflict in that film (and while I don't approve of Rogue taking the cure for the message it sends -- I do understand why she did it).

That is just one of the many reasons why an X4 providing it canonizes the last film is treading dangerous waters. It would be better for Singer to just ignore it or start over. I think a sequel is possible but who would want to adhere to that set of creative limitations? Unless Singer views it as a creative challenge.
