Bryan Fuller is Showrunner on New Trek Series

Best pop culture news so far this year, I guess.

Now where are Hugh Dancy and Lee Pace at?

Great news. I'm a huge fan of Fuller, and I know he's been wanting to make a Trek series for ages, so I'm glad they're actually letting him do it.
I just hope he goes in more of a Pushing Daisies direction than a Hannibal direction. Trek does dark stuff really well, but I still prefer it light and fun.

@JD Well based on a few quotes I've seen from him he definitely seems to want to bring the fun back.

I hope the new ship doesn't look anything like 1701-E, NX-01, or Voyager; I love the mid-section of the Enterprise. I was glad JJtrek brought it back. I think Kurtzman & Fuller were hired to fulfill what the CBS execs want. I hope this new series is better than DS9, Voy, and Ent. combined; the show needs to be as good as The Next Generation was.

This unanimously positive thread makes me nervous about the quantum state suddenly tunneling to a new, lower state. No contrary opinions at all? Gosh. What the hell happened to the TrekBBS I used to know?

Go to Gallifrey Base :)

Another white man? No, thanks. Fuller's already said his fantasy casting would be Angela Basset as the captain and Rosario Dawson as the first officer -- which sounds great to me.

It was said mainly in jest. I'd be very happy if we had a much more diverse cast. Especially with the lead.

^^
Lee Pace already proved he can play a blue guy, so... first (starring) Bolian captain? :D

I've never heard of Fuller before, but I liked "Empok Nor" and "The Raven". With his previous Trek and showrunner experience, he looks like a good choice for the new show. I'm glad they got someone who had some experience in Star Trek.

Very cool news. I don't really have any preference as to what universe or time period it's set in, as long as it's fun and smart and well written.

Although I suppose one benefit of setting it in the Prime universe is being able to bring on guest stars from TNG, DS9, etc, which might be fun.

Of course with how convoluted things became in the 24th Century with all the different wars and conflicts, it might be best to jump forward quite a bit so they can reset all that stuff again.

If this is a sign of anything it's that CBS seem committed to wanting to make a successful Trek series again!

I've never seen any of his not-ST work, but none of it sounds interesting to me. And the episodes he wrote for Star Trek (except for Bride of Chaotica!) are not among my favorites. I'd say I was disappointed, but this is the kind of thing I was expecting.
