Browncoats: Redemption...here are the trailers...

I hope they dont over use the word shiny, because it looks like the might

nice CGI on the ship taking off however

Sorry.. not convinced. It looks like any other fanvideo i've seen. Some are broader in scope, some are basement productions.

This here didn't convince me at all.. the woman sounded like she's reading the script aloud, the effects are nothing to speak of and it looks cheap.

Now.. i have all the respect for the people doing it. Feeling so passionately for something deserves respect.. it's just that i've rarely seen any fanvid that i consider good.

They don't have to keep up with high quality TV or movie effects (after all they're spending millions on those effects and have real pro's doing them) but where they fail mostly is just rehashing what made their show unique or special such as "Shiny" in this case.

Additionally they've copied the Serenity and the bridge almost 1:1.. if you want to make a good fanvid try to branch out and do something new. And get people who can act.

@stonester1 - Thank you for taking the time to share this. We have a long road to go till September and your help promoting this is greatly appreciated.

@Pilot Ace, Data Holmes, Cutter John, THE CHEBB, J. Allen - Thank you. We hope to keep on the right path to keep you interested and intrigued

@wamdue - I can assure you it's a word that was used sparingly throughout the script. The focus was not to pepper the entire film with an over use of every word from the 'verse.

@Trekker4747 - I will pass that on.

@FPAlpha - I can appreciate your point of view immensly. We didn't go into this thinking everyone would like it. I would love to see the other fanvids that you think this looks like. We kept very true to the camera style, lenses, and pacing used in Firefly. If you feel this is too close to another fan film, please let me know so we can stay on path we intended.
Since there was only one effect in the entire trailer, I'll pass the note that it looks "cheap" to the design studio offering their time and effort for free in the name of the charities we're supporting.
I can assure you, since I was involved in planning and construction of the ship, this is not a 1:1 copy of the Serenity Bridge. It's a little unfair to make that comparrison with the limited shots we've shown of it. There was effort to maintain the design style of the verse, but equal effort not to douplicate it.
I'll ask that you give us, atleast, till the film comes out to pass any full judgement. I'll leave you with one last question. Have you ever made your own film? If so, I would love to hear about your efforts to reach the level of professionalism that you are comparing fan films, with probably 1/10th the budget, if not less, to accomplish it.
I am here, if you want to talk further. Please shoot me an email at miked@browncoatsmovie.com so we don't have to clogg up this board.

Thank you all for giving us the time you did to view the trailer. We have a lot more to show over the next 10 months. This was just a small taste of things to come.

I'm a big fan of the 'Verse and a big fan of fan films, I'm going to be at Dragon*Con for the big unveiling!

And yes, the captain is quite the hottie, and you can pass that along as well.

glad to hear you have not over used the word "Shiny" from the promo it seemed like any time anyone ended a communication, or accepted an order, they would say shiny, it would be like making a TNG fanfilm where the characters say "make it so & fire at will " alot, for the cheap laugh you get from get from using a line used alot in the TV show.

as for the bridge it does look similar, however if the crew is flying a Firefly class vessel then it would look similar, as for it looking cheap well its a fanfilm its something people should be able to look as long as its too a good enough decent as to not distract from what else is happening, that this point I could not say if that standard has been reached.

of course if the plot is engaging and the acting is good, then viewers will be too distracted to notice even a cheap set.

No one is going to walk out of a cinema and say, I loved that movie, but I really didnt like the set, well thats not 100% true, I liked the Star Trek movie but didn't like the engineering set, and oh I think I just proved myself wrong.

I thought the character of Lux Lucre was a nice touch. :techman: I am a little concerned about the captain's acting ability. She really didn't seem to have the presence I would like to see in a Browncoat ship captain. But I'm more than willing to see the entire movie first before making a judgment there.

Since this seems to be set post-Serenity the movie, I'm intrigued to see what kind of plot we'll get. Yay for Browncoats! :D
