Brink Back Kirk Fans and Trek XI

How much do the fans of the original BSG like/dislike the new BSG? I haven't watched either version, so I don't know if fans of the original show have rabid hate for the new series or not.

Oh, you don't know the half of it, darlin' ...

You'd think the BBK people would be in more of a fightin' mood after Shat started talking about getting left out against his wishes.

I imagine that's what he thought as well.

And HRC thought the nomination would be wrapped up on Super Tuesday. The best laid plans...

I suspect their numbers have already splintered between BBK and those who thought Bring Back Shatner was catchier... :p

I was searching for Big Boob Sex, and ended up here. Then my raft sank and I was stranded.

Okay, so I just sent an official request to the BBKers to respond to this thread. Only Cogley could go to China.

Anyway, we'll see if they respond.

Okay, so the handsome and brave Samuel T. Cogley, Ambassador for the Star Trek XI forum of the Trek BBS, has made the long and dangerous journey to the lands of BBK to seek answers.

And answers I have found!

Here are the responses I received, in two separate e-mails, reprinted with permission (of course):

Hi, Sam!

Pretty much what you said in the TrekBBS thread was correct. The main
goal is for Kirk's death in Generations to be undone in canon. Our
preference, of course, would be for Shatner to appear in the film as
well, but it's not a requirement. Some fans on the BBS have come up
with some interesting ideas (such as a post-credit surprise
appearance), but it doesn't matter to us how they actually do it. We
are aware that whatever storyline they came up with could limit the
options.

We haven't updated the news site in a while because there really isn't
any news relevant to the campaign. Shatner is apparently not in the
film, and there's no need to keep posting redundant interviews stating
such. If there was a strong rumor that he was appearing in the film,
or if news leaked out regarding older Kirk's death status, we would of
course post it. But for right now, it's pretty much "wait and see."
Usually if someone emails us requesting more general Star Trek XI news,
we direct them to Trekmovie or Trekweb.

Thanks for your email!

Jay

Oh, by the way, you have permission to post the email if you'd like.

And to cover another issue: Some people are wondering how we feel about
younger actors playing the parts. Well, that's personal preference. I
personally like the new cast they've chosen and I hope it will be a
good film. But naturally, if Kirk's death in GEN is undone from canon,
I'll love it even more.

Talk to you soon!

Jay

Jay seems to be quite an agreeable fellow. And I thank him for his speedy replies.

And now I must prepare for my next dangerous mission to faraway lands...

I'm quite impressed with Jay's professionalism and his reasonableness. Back in the 1990s when I was on AOL, I browsed the Star Trek message boards there, just about all the BBKers I encountered there were, shall we say... a bit fanatical in the scary way? That had been my impression of them all these years, but I'm happy to have a reason to think otherwise now. :)
