I don't understand the anti-modding mindset. It's one of the few areas where PCs have an enormous edge over consoles. Yeah, consoles allow custom content to some extent, but nowhere near the level PC game modding allows.
Deliberately making it hard to mod a game kills its value to a lot of people.
My favorite example is Quake: a rather mediocre game, by itself, but moved epic numbers of units because it was completely moddable. Things like Team Fortress and Counter-Strike wouldn't exist without that.
I've had very little luck getting the more extensive mods to run, unfortunately. KM, following all instructions repeatedly, only crashes for me. The only mod I've had luck with is NanoFX, which is nice, but not all that spectacular.
But if the mods don't work with the campaign, I'm not sure I see the point. Isn't it just then flying around until you kill of some enemies, and game over? How much fun is that?

I have excellent luck when it comes to installing mods.
I second the Kobayashi Maru mod. It's awesome. The game is basically worthless without it. Not to say the campaign is terrible, but the KM mod is what really makes BC a worthwhile title.
