Bridge Commander

^ I know the feeling. The black screen of death has visited me many times. I think now though they've developed a program that finds the mistake and deactivates it.

I've had very little luck getting the more extensive mods to run, unfortunately. KM, following all instructions repeatedly, only crashes for me. The only mod I've had luck with is NanoFX, which is nice, but not all that spectacular.

But if the mods don't work with the campaign, I'm not sure I see the point. Isn't it just then flying around until you kill of some enemies, and game over? How much fun is that?

I don't understand the anti-modding mindset. It's one of the few areas where PCs have an enormous edge over consoles. Yeah, consoles allow custom content to some extent, but nowhere near the level PC game modding allows.

Deliberately making it hard to mod a game kills its value to a lot of people.

My favorite example is Quake: a rather mediocre game, by itself, but moved epic numbers of units because it was completely moddable. Things like Team Fortress and Counter-Strike wouldn't exist without that.

Here I agree. I find games more funny and entertaining if it's possible to add something personal to them.

I have excellent luck when it comes to installing mods.

Took another stab at it, running smooth now. Not sure what I did differently this time, but it was a while ago.
Well it may not be intended for the SP game, but seems to work, except for loading any saves and switching torpedo types. But the Galaxy and Sov ships kick a lot more butt, as they should. It should never have taken as long as it did for a Galaxy to frag a Galor.
Love being able to run this at 1600x1200.

I second the Kobayashi Maru mod. It's awesome. The game is basically worthless without it. Not to say the campaign is terrible, but the KM mod is what really makes BC a worthwhile title.

The game is certainly worthless, I'll agree there, but it annoyed me so much that I can't be bothered wasting my download allowance on it.

Some people do, some people don't, but for all of us modding BC at some point we see the Black Screen of Death.

Mine usually becomes the stretched rainbow polygon screen of WTF?!

Or it just crashes to the desktop.

I too dislike the way Saffi behaves in the game, she gets quite annoying during certain points, even to the point of talking to the people on the view screen, instead of the natural choice of the captain...you would think they would have had a selection of things that you can pick to say to the people you talk to, but instead she gets on her high horse and does it anyway....I do like the interaction with the rest of the crew though.
